Must-Have apps for the EVO 3D

The only reason why I use MYlookout, is for the locator, the rest is disabled

another neat little app is called Auto SMS, reads your text messages for you while you are reading.

The best defense against malware is your own personal awareness. Any computer program can be defeated, including anti-malware programs. So knowing what to download, and staying away from apps that are suspicious, is key. I used to use Lookout, but after awhile, I just decided my phone's resources (battery and CPU) were better spent doing other things. Not saying Lookout is a resource hungry app. Far from it, it consumes a very little. But me being a tweaker, any excess that I don't consider a luxury, is a waste.

If you really want to stay safe, be prepared to read. Because there is a poster here by the name of 'alostpacket' who wrote a friggin' encyclopedia on the subject. Here is the thread:

http://androidforums.com/android-ap...ps-avoid-viruses-guide-those-new-android.html

Now, if you don't mind having an app constantly running in the background, checking files, because it's a second-defense sort of thing, I won't argue that. But if you think you're safe because you have one (or all) of the malware apps installed, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. Read that thread, at least the major parts of it. Learn how to protect yourself. Anti-malware apps will just lull you into a false sense of security, IMO.

I will definitely read that link! Thanks. The more into the better. I have been using Lookout as well. Thanks agian for the link!

Anyone know if there is another phone that has been using the same battery that comes in the EVO 3D? I'd like to get my husband a couple of spares but I don't want to pay top price. It seems like because the phone is so new, there aren't too many places that carry them yet. Thanks. :)

The only place I have seen an OEM battery is at Sprint's website but you'll be paying $45+. Another option is Seidio...they have replacement/extended batteries. That may be a cheaper route.

The cheapest route is getting one of those 2 or 3 batteries plus wall charger from China using ebay. I used them in my old EVO with no problem. They were great for backup and for $12 shipped it is hard to beat. These are from the seller I've used a few times:

2X 1800MAH Battery +Home Charger For HTC EVO 3D Sprint | eBay

EDIT: To answer your original question, I don't think the EVO 3D shares it's battery with any other phone.

Couple of app questions. Which car navigator is better, the phone comes with two? Is there any reason why iheartradio doesn't show up on the app store when I search, same with Crackle?

Personally I'm a fan of Navigation. I find that it's accuracy is a lot better than the TeleNav GPS Naviagator (Sprint's navigation system). I only had the TeleNav on my old Blackberry and was led astray so many times it wasn't funny. I've found that whenever I've used Navigation that it's accruatly told me where to go within 50 meters.

swiftkey is incredible. I downloaded it onto my mom's 4G and i was blown away at how quickly it picked up on my texting style.

+1. I tried using swype and was starting to get used to it but just don't like the finger to get a word so I thought I'd try swiftkey and i have to admit that the accuracy is amazing. It's almost like I have my blacberry keyboard back.:D

I love that fact that it learns from all the text that you ever put into it. that is a huge plus for building your own personal library of words and slag terms that you commonly use.

Which post is off topic? Seems they're all talking about must have apps for android or reasons why they are must have. Seems pretty on topic to me :)

Anyway, still hoping for some more input on Auto Silence apps that will integrate with calendar appointments. I'll try a few today and see what happens.

EDIT: Nevermind, you're probably talking about the battery post :p I just saw yours under the post about Swiftkey

EDIT2: Philosophically speaking, isn't commenting purely to say something is off topic just as off topic as the original off topic remark? :p

Just wondering what makes appbrain over the regular android market?

It suggests apps that you may like based off the apps you have installed. It also makes a backup list of apps you have incase you wipe your device/get a new device. But Google has been getting better at this second point.

bumping this post because i never got an answer. I don't think i am going to be willing to spend $10 on an app if i can root it, but it is just a thought.

I used it last night. Was just a slight annoyance of installing drivers on the PC I was going to tether but after that it worked like a charm. Very fast as well!

Can someone please suggest a bigger keyboard? I txt a ton and this tiny narrow keyboard is so frustrating. Flipping it sideways makes it too large ahh. My biggest complainst so far is this keyboard, well the battery life too.Perhaps if it wasnt sensitive. Any good keyboard apps plz? TIA

I'm going to try sticking with Swype. I will say - I'm missing the wider screen on the 4vo. The skinnier screen on the 3vo def makes a difference with typing.

EasyTether works great for me too. Also, once you purchase it, if you used your google account and you change devices you can reinstall it for no charge and continue using it. I am very pleased with it and how fast it is.
