Help Offical Moment Update

I just got back from the Shrewsbury, MA store where me and my girlfriend dropped off our 2 phones. Mine is only a week old yet they said neither would take the update and ordered us two new ones. I'll make sure the new ones are updated before I go back down there. Anyone know of a store w/ better tech's in Mass?

i was thinking of doing mine and maybe my girlfriends this weekend. someone said framingham got theirs working.. i called foxboro and they said they have done them but the girl also said it doesn't reset the phone so she was lying but she may not have been a tech so i took it with a grain of salt. let me know if you have any luck. i'm in franklin so foxboro is def close to me, but i work in westboro.

I got my phone updated from a sprint repair center in Pasadena, CA, they did the update in just 20 minutes...update was successful. I'm yet to test the battery.. but the Google maps, GPS are working great...overall I'm very impressed with the update and Samsung Moment. The store tech guy was saying android 2.1 could be ready by end of March.

I only took my card out as a safety measure, having seen the various reports of inept Sprint techs bricking phones.

But yeah, MyBackupPro did an admirable job, but I think that I might just write down the apps I have, then wipe again and reinstall them all via WiFi (for speed) from the Market, so they'll be registered and eligible for update notifications.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in battery life after the update? I used zefies cl14 and my battery can hardly last a day with very light usage and everything turned off.
Nope, I get the same ACTUAL battery life... about 2 days with my normal to heavier than normal usage.

Battery meter is more accurate until I get to 50%, then it seems to go back to how it was. As before the update, I ignore it and all is fine.

I have been following this thread from the start and have a question, due to not being clear, after reading through all of these posts.
Aside from getting the update done, and the whole issue of the trouble some are having, getting it done. Would I be better off staying with Zefies CL14 & the latest KERN, or flashing back to stock and taking it in for the "official" update?

After everything that's been said in this thread, I'm not really sure, what the best course of action would be.
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks

Something that Zefies CL14 doesn't do is cause the reduction in available memory on the phone. So there is definitely something different between the two methods but I don't think anyone knows for sure yet why. It's possible the reason for the reduction of memory and the complete erasing of the phone from the official update is the file system was repartitioned to prepare for the 2.1 update...but that's just a guess.

If you do get the official update though, you most likely won't be able to use any of the custom stuff very easily.

i think this could be one reason behind the space difference. Zefie said he isn't flashing the recovery.rfs while the "official" update flashes this to BML8. As long as we are able to use Odin, need CJ05 SBL, we will be able to recovery whenever and with whatever we want.
recovery.rfs - What it is and why we do not use it

doing the "official" update wipes all the data from your phone. until i see a very compelling advantage to using the "official" update, i would prefer not to wipe my phone. i personally dont like going to sprint tech's unless i absolutely have to either.
ive flashed zefie's cl14 system, cl14 modem and 9.2 kernel. it works great for me!

I dont know why I thought that my experience with sprint would be any different...

Called at 10am to my local repair store, asked if they are doing the upgrade for the moment. The guy on the phone said "yes we have done 2 already." So I scheduled an appointment for 11:45 am. Got there 5 minutes early. Waited until 12:20 until someone finally helped me (they were very busy helping other walk-ins, which is cool, I understand their problems were probably faster than my request, whatever). The guy asks why I was in today and I told him for the upgrade. He then looked puzzled. I told him that it was going from CJ05 to CL14. He walked to the back to ask if they could do that and what do you know, "Sorry, the update is not on our laptop yet, try back in a week or so"

LOVE YOU SPRINT.

Just wasted 2 hours of my life trying to get the update in New York City today. The customer service agent didn't know what I was talking about and the tech said he knew, it would take 2 hours.

I came back 2 hours later and my phone was exactly the same as when I left it. I told them that there was no update done to the phone, and they told me to try another Sprint store in a different part of town.

I am not impressed.

After reading about all of the issues Moment owners were having at the Sprint stores with this update, I decided to wait and schedule it for today, figuring that any bugs/issues would have been worked out.

I went into the Sprint store in Northridge, CA (20 miles from where I live) and the guy who took my phone told me that they haven't performed the Moment update (not a good feeling). Allegedly, one of the other techs was working on updating a floor model right before my appointment. They told me it should be ready in about an hour.

Assuming that there would be issues, I came back after an hour and a half only to find out that they are having issues with their computer system and were unable to process the update. He also called another repair facility in Encino, which was also having issues with the update today.

I wasn't going to waste anymore of my day dealing with the update, so I guess I'll just have to try again next weekend. I figured that a store in the Los Angeles area would have performed this update already.....guess I was wrong.

Which store was this ? I tried the one at Lexington & 56th st with similar results. They also wiped out my phone.

I also tried calling them later and they asked me to come by after a week as they were having 'computer' problems. What a load of BS ..

I went to the one at 125th and Adam Clayton Powell; they told me afterward to try the store on 86th and Lexington. I didn't have time to go over there today. I'll try again next weekend. I have a Mac, so I can't root my phone.

I updated my Moment at the Apple Valley, MN Sprint store. It took just 20 mins and believe me my battery life is at least 2-3 times better. I had left it running all night with the Wi-Fi turned on and it still had 60% battery in the morning. I was going to return the phone for a Hero (still within the Best Buy 30 days limit) due to poor battery life, but now it's a keeper. The down side is I had to re-install all my apps. Since all my PIM is in Google, I got my contacts and calendar items back in less than a minute.

I just may make an appointment with him. Thanks!

yea, nice guy for the brief amount of time i talked to him. he jokingly said when i dropped it off the update takes 2 minutes, connecting and making sure its ok to be updated takes the other 28 minutes.

so far gps is still a TON better and i threw my spare battery in, which was charged at 100% @ 3pm. i was connected to download a picture via USB (so it was charging) for about 20 mins during that time and i'm still @ 80%. pretty good in my book. if this keeps up 99% of my issues will be alleviated.
