Root recovering lost data on redux

hi

ive started a new thread because this is a specific problem, and ive had a few that are starting to merge in with other problems, so its to tidy it up a bit really.

basically, ive gone from leedroid to redux, wiping data and cache after a nandroid and a titanium apps and data back up.

on re-installing titanium, ive tried to restore apps and data. it instals the apps, but not the data. im fairly desperate to recover personal notes from ak notepad in particular.

ive tried a fresh wipe and reinstal but still no luck. so ive now mounted the phone as usb storage, and browsed to the 'titanium back up' folder. searched in there and copied 3 files to my pc that have aknotepad in the filenames.

the 3 file types are an .apk.gz file, a .tar.gz file, and a properties file. im hopeful these have my data on them somewhere, but is there any way to recover it on this rom? id like to stick with redux for a while as i really like it, but if im desperate for my notes, i might have to nandroid back to leedroid.

any advice welcome please.

cheers

oh dear. ive been googling away at different file types, and even installed 'power archiver' on my pc as it said it read gz files. it unzips it all, and i was hoping id at last be able to read some data that i could maybe copy and paste, but still no good. drawing a blank here.

google shows other people losing data with this app too. shame cos i like it, but i might just have to flash back to leedroid.

Launchers aren't good at restoring layouts anyway - generally you won't get the widgets back.

But I've also had problems with Ti restore on Redux. Some apps it works fine, others it just will not restore the data. Generally I've been able to solve the most important ones by restoring in other ways, e.g. via the cloud, or where the app itself can back up its data to SD (e.g. Astrid and Note Everything). I don't know why this is though.

would you have any idea how i could access my data from my titanium back up mate? besides going back and 'nandroiding' my previous rom?

cheers

Afraid not - I don't know how Ti packs the data, and don't know of any app other than Ti that can unpack it.

If there's another way of backing up AKNotepad, such as it having a backup option of its own, then nandroid restore and doing that would be one way. You can also take a nandroid of your current Redux, to speed changes, i.e. nandroid Redux, restore your previous ROM, store the data, restore the Redux nandroid and import the data. But I don't know AKNotepad, so don't know whether it has a "backup data to sd" option within the app (or whether it plays nicely with something like MyBackup).

hmmm yeah, nandroid this rom when ive got it set how i want it, why didnt i think of that. might even look at other notepads too :)

thanks a lot

I have nandroids from a few ROMs archived on my laptop, and often have more than one on my card.

I have to tidy them up every now and then though - they can be quite large!

that sounds a good idea. how do you archive them to laptop? just copy the whole sd card or copy specific files? and if so, where are the nandroid files in which directories?

i assume every time i do a nandroid, it just uses up another large chunk of space on the sd. how big is each file?

the size of the file depends on how much space is used on your phone. Theyre in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup

worked like a charm!! nandroided redux, wiped cache/dalvik/reset, went back to leedroid, exported data to sd, repeated and restored redux, imported from sd :)

i also took the opportunity to usb phone to laptop, and backed up my roms, and a few other bits and bobs to laptop, before removing them from sd to free up another gig or so of space. and just left the last 2 roms on the card for now.

thanks ever so much for your help, its much appreciated. and dont think ive finished playing yet! :)
