Live Wallpapers - Why bother?

Some users, myself included, get great battery life even with live wallpapers.

Also note that not all live wallpapers are the same in terms of battery usage. Ive noticed some drastic differences between LWPs when shopping around, in terms of battery usage.

Its possible your prefered LWPs are resource hogs?

To be honest, I've never really tried LWPs for an entire day, so I'm not sure. Of course I'd love to be able to run LWPs, but not at the expense of battery life. I'll try a few, read reviews and see what happens.

I really don't think the EPIC 4G's battery is all that bad. With SetCPU, Voltage control, etc on the custom kernels/ROMs, the battery life is actually usable.

But in comparison to some of the other Smartphones I've played around with, Droid 1, Droid X, Thunderbolt, Mesmerize, EVO, iPhone, etc, I'd say the Epic is actually better than those above...

I am, for the most part, all about keeping the phone simple and functional over bells and whistles. I did however flash the H.R. Giger Theme over the top of SFR, and I have been enjoying it the past few days.

So bottom line, people do what they want with their Android phones. Most people are most likely happy to get a charge to last for 8-10 hours (work, school, etc.). I'd rather have the option, and not use it, versus not having it all...

Before I rooted I always used Live Wallpapers. Remember that not all live wallpapers drain the battery that much; it depends on the refresh rate, how much of the screen is being updated, etc. The Epic's battery is a fine battery, you just need to take care of it and turn things off when you are not using them.

For me I think I am going to stick with the Syndicate ROM wallpaper. I like the big S because Syndicate and Galaxy S, get it?

yea I like live wallpapers, plus the battery usage isn't an issue with me (3000MaH extended battery :p and plus everyone that has a epic knows why it doesn't have all that good of battery life right?

because it has the AMOLED screen DUH lol, I love the screen though its one of the best features about it, so stop complaining about the battery life, yea its not that great but on some phones like this one you have to make sacrifices for nicer things on the phone so either go buy an extended battery :)

The only way LWP will reduce battery life by any significant amount is if you sit there and stare at it. If your phone's screen is off or you're running a program, you won't see it, hence it won't be killing your battery.

I use LWp and as i post this, my phone has been unplugged for 1d 11h and my battery is at 75%.

Extended battery + a ROM? Or do you just never use your phone lol? That is a lot of juice!

I have a charger at my desk at work, a charger in my car, and a charger on my desk at home. So I'm not concerned with battery life being an issue, I'm rarely away from a charger for a whole day. I still can get (with decent usage) a full day out of my phone. As mentioned above, the LWP is only on when you're looking at it or haven't locked your screen when you were done doing what you were just doing. I have a habit of locking my screen as soon as I'm done foolin with my phone. The difference in battery life is negligible to me. I also pump my screen brightness which a lot of people can't believe, they always keep their screens dark to save some battery time, but... I mean... are you saving that much?

I like the look of Live Wallpapers, but with sketchy battery life already on the Epic, why do people bother with them at all?

I get terrible battery life because of my Live Wallpaper. I'm lucky to make it through the day.

Why do I bother?

Arthur Clarke's famous quote sums it up: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
