Hello there MrLarner - check this thread out... http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

It is a thread with all of the useful links for rooting a DHD. You don't HAVE to have a card reader, but I found it useful.

If you need any help, give us a shout!! :D

thanks for the quick reply, i've already got that page up on a different tab, but i have a branded handset so i need to creat a goldcard, but to creat a goldcard, its telling me i need a card reader.
any chance you could explain how i would do this without 1?

You don't HAVE to have a card reader... you only need it if you are using HEX to edit when making the goldcard - the other method (using the goldcard tool for the PC actually creates the goldcard while the SD card is IN the phone.

sorry my bad, i've just noticed i was reading how to creat a gold card for the htc desire, and not the HD, so i've not found the correct page.
but its now saying i need a spare micro sd card (which i dont have either).
so is this rooting a NO NO for me?
or can it be done?

It is the correct page (think it actually says in El Presidente's thread that the method has been tested as working (by me incidently) on the DHD, even though it says it's for the Desire)... I've replied to your PM to explain a bit further... come back to me if you need help! :)

hi mate, thanks for your reply on the forum, just wondered if you had a bit of time, if you could help me root my htc desire HD.
as i stated on the thread, i was reading the wrong page about making a gold card. i was reading how to create a gold card for htc desire and not htc desire HD lol.
but i have noticed its saying i need a spare micro sd card.
is this correct or can it be done without a spare 1?

Alright there buddy... I will walk you through what you need to do if you want. I'm at work though, so my replies may be a little sporadic! :)

You don't have to have a spare SD card... I used the one that came with the phone! Copy everything from the card to a folder on your desktop, so you can copy all back again once you're done with using it as a goldcard.

In the stuff I linked you to there is a goldcard tool (program for the PC) and, although it is for ther Desire, not the DHD, it does work... where it is asking for the MMC1 number, just put the (already reversed) MMC2 number that you get from the goldcard helper from the market (both the goldcard tool and the goldcard helper should be linked in El Presidente's thread).

Before you start with a goldcard and downgrading, etc. What firmware does your phone have on it? If it is 2.2 or 2.2.1 (Froyo), then you should be ok to downgrade. If you are on 2.3 (Gingerbread), it is possible to Gingerbreak and then download, but not if you have certain builds... the way to find out is (on one of your homescreens) "menu=>settings=>about phone" - you'll need to list the info you have there and I'll let you know what to do next. :D

software infomation.....

android version - 2.3.3

htc sence version - 2.1

based version - 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2

kernal version - 2.6.35.10-g3bf3222
htc-kernal@and18-2

build number - 2.37.110.5 CL58702 release-keys

software number - 2.37.110.5

browser version - webkit/533.1

THATS ALL I CAN SEE IN SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED?

Right... thought I'd ask for the information to try and save you a bit of time... unfortunately, you are on an un-rootable version of Android at the moment... where it says build 2.37, that is the important part.

At present this means that you cannot gingerbreak in order to downgrade to a rootable version.

I will post this conversation in the forum (in your thread), but I have a feeling that you will be told the same thing. I am sure that there will be people working on getting around HTC's security as we speak, so it shouldn't be too long before you will be able to root your phone... all I can suggest is that you keep checking on here/XDA to see when it's happened... I'm sure that there will be plenty of posts about it when someone works it out!

Know that's not the news you wanted, but thought it better to stop you going through everything, to find that you can't get there anyway!

If someone could just confirm my fears about build 2.37??

Cheers :)

I've just done a quick search on this for you MrL... I thought I'd been involved in a similar discussion recently...

http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/359383-how-root-desire-hd-gingerbread.html

If you look through the post it does confirm that 2.37 is non-rootable at present!

Within the thread linked here I have linked to a couple of different places that confirm that... SORRY!! :(

Appareltly over at XDA, theyve managed to crack this system number I believe! It's not 100% yet, but hold tight :)

I do not think there were any issues with that build (highlighted from your original post). As you are on Vodaphone, I am guessing you have a branded handset - you would need to create a goldcard (also explained in the thread I linked towards the top of this thread) - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

sorry my bad, i've just noticed i was reading how
but its now saying i need a spare micro sd card (which i dont have either).
so is this rooting a NO NO for me?
or can it be done?

you dont need to have a space micro sd card, but you will need 1.

the reason they say spare is because it will need to be formatted, and most people arent happy to do this. However, if you backup the music, photos, videos etc. on your micro-sd card then there is no reason that you cant use that to make the goldcard, and then continue to use it as data storage after rooting + flashing. this is what i have done, and have had no problems with. (although i did forget to backup my music first).

hope this helps
