Official Bionic Release Date Thread

As luck would have it I have 2 lines, my personal on vzw, and my business on at&t. I'm due for an update from at&t, but not due for a while with vzw after getting the Fascinate on Oct 1st. For me it would come down to this, upgrading my at&t line which is a Blackberry Torch to the Atrix, and then selling my Fascinate and buying a Blackberry to run on vzw's network. I usually roll with a Blackberry, and a smartphone (PDA) on a daily basis. So for me it can work, but I would have to exercise at&t 's 30 day policy hard. My only question would be if at&t has really fixed its network issues, with dropped calls, and sluggish web performance. If it's on par with my Fascinate I'm all for it. However, that would mean passing up vzw's newer 4G network for at&t's somewhat out of nowhere 3G 3.5 upgrade bump. Ahhh, decisions, decisions!

And after comparing the Atrix to the Bionic, the Atrix looks to have more bells and whistles, and can utilize all those fancy docks. And has word has it, the Atrix has almost double the Ram! Seriously, why would vzw wait for the second quarter to release the Bionic anyway, when at&t will release the Atrix in early Feb? All because of this stupid iPhone coming on vzw? So annoying Apple is already, too little, to late for a vzw iPhone. Its already an Android Nation!

Q2 makes ZERO sense, considering they are talking smack about selling 800K Xoom's that have Honeycomb, which is not even anywhere near ready for primetime.

More sense to sell the Bionic first and then the Xoom. Perhaps this has to do with backroom info about iPhone and Motorola wants some release space?

The xoom is ready, slated for a Q1 release, most likely by the end of Feb and will be UPGRADED via firmware update to 4g in Q2. The Bionic is the one that is nowhere near finished, as said by just about every report that had hands-on with it at CES. What difference does it make to sell one before the other? If anything, releasing the tab ASAP is a smarter move. Moto already has smartphones out all over, but have yet to tap the tablet scene.

Since they only have LTE in 38 markets it makes perfect sence. Wait unitl they can roll out a few more markets first.

Any news on a release date?

I was hoping to get it before the July 7 data plans kick in. I dont have data now.

If its not out by the 7th I would even get the charge and hopefully switch within 14 days

Lots of rumors floating around on a couple other sites are saying July 28th, which is actually an improvement over the original guesses of mid-August.

Your best bet is to buy a used OG Droid or Droid Eris for cheap (you can get them for under $30), activate it with unlimited data, then get the Bionic once it releases.

If the Droid 3 releases in mid July, seems no likely way the Bionic releases in July as well. That would probably not be smart for Moto, since not milking the new releases as best as possible to get a quick start of return on investment.

My silly guess is if D3 is mid July, the Bionic best case is around mid August.

That's what I was thinking too, but there are some pretty solid informants all spouting the same July 28th release date over at AC.

Maybe they realize it's already been delayed too long and will just continue to use steam the longer they wait.

Fair point. Not to mention Moto's financial plan for 2011 is certainly compromised, the longer they wait, since the Bionic was obviously part of their 2011 revenue plan.

Maybe that's what you like to believe. But I don't think anyone with right mind would believe it. If there is even slight bit of credibility in it, it would make headline on many IT sites.

I have to disagree. The fact that it was posted by Phil lends a lot of credibility to the information.

Wasnt the tagline for this device...."The end of waiting"?

Seems kind of ironic doesnt it? I hope its not a Duke Nukem "When its done" kind of time line!

Funny. About a month ago I mentioned that the the Bionic is the Duke Nukem of phones too. If the device slips past August, it will stick.

Added:

THIS is also why I am doubting the current release guesses. Based on the funktastic DX2 Froyo effort, Gingerbread issues do not surprise me at all. This seems a legit bit of info. Seems Motorola has fallen off the rails in their firmware efforts- I submit the DX2 as exhibit A (Motorola can not even release a stable release on mature hardware and OS). Come on folks, a newer chipset and LTE... Seems no way for July, at any rate.

Also the Xoom as exhibit B.

Aint got not GS2 on that list.... maybe Samsung is adding LTE and will delay it, or maybe just a list miss. All assuming the list is sourced from VZW marketing folks in the first place....

added:

Then again, even if a real road map VZW have missed their own on a regular basis, so the blind lead the blind in this case ;)

It is in my oppinion that it will not be out buy the 7th when the new data plan will go into effect. My friend at Verizon has played with the bionic at one of his training classes and said it is well worth the wait. that being said Verizon is pretty smart when it comes to waiting until the July 7th + 14 days has past before the release. but on the consumer side its pretty D*** because im with another carrier waiting to switch and I am 99% sure ill be not gettign the unlimited data! I wish even for a day to have the option to get the unlimited plan. IE: phone comes out the 6th and people smart enough to get it before the new plan changes would get the unlim. but hey like that would happen.
