Official Bionic Release Date Thread

Maybe that's what you like to believe. But I don't think anyone with right mind would believe it. If there is even slight bit of credibility in it, it would make headline on many IT sites.

Yeah because the IT sites are just so credible:rolleyes: I mean I dont care if you believe it or not but it came from the androidcentral head man so I guess he would just make it up. smh

Funny. About a month ago I mentioned that the the Bionic is the Duke Nukem of phones too. If the device slips past August, it will stick.

Added:

THIS is also why I am doubting the current release guesses. Based on the funktastic DX2 Froyo effort, Gingerbread issues do not surprise me at all. This seems a legit bit of info. Seems Motorola has fallen off the rails in their firmware efforts- I submit the DX2 as exhibit A (Motorola can not even release a stable release on mature hardware and OS). Come on folks, a newer chipset and LTE... Seems no way for July, at any rate.

Also the Xoom as exhibit B.

Did Verizon Reject Motorola Gingerbread Updates for Being Overly Buggy?

Well that is for older phones and most likely they just quit caring about those to work on their new flagship phones. I mean it happens all the time but pretty sure both the bionic and droid 3 are past the testing phase and have a different build of gb with a different blur.

I can see that. Moto may have assumed the DX2 would be "easy", since mature hardware and OS to work with. Ditto on Gingerbread, since mature harware that was already released.

None the less, Moto might be in a "Catch 22".

1. Release the devices ASAP (July) to get back on track with their 2011 business plan for revenue and perhaps have issues that would further hurt consumer perception.

2. Take their time to make sure the firmware is fairly stable, but risk August/September release dates.

Four more weeks may seem trivial, but not if they want to avoid a much more public DX2 or Gingerbread update debacle- but with the DX3 and Bionic. This assumes a scenario that the firmware for those devices is not stable already. Could be stable for both already- so no harm, no foul.

My point is, if he feels there is any credible or reliable bit of info there, why doesn't he reveal source of it? Instead he said that every timeframe is subject to change. That's like not reporting anything at all.
He might be partially right on some of that list though. Will see how it pans out as that's not so distant future.

I'm willing to bet it's option 1...

While the rest of your post may have merit, with all due respect this seems like a silly question.

If Motorola/Verizon are not ready to officially release information yet, then by definition those that know and yet release information are in danger of being disciplined - possibly fired. Those that reveal the identities of such sources no longer get information from those sources. (As an aside, in a case where the number of people "in the know" is limited, this is true even if attempts are made to be vague about the source even while giving enough information to provide credibility. With a small universe of potential leaks, the leaker can be found out more easily.)

I agree with option 1. Motorola will release this earlier than they wanted and it MIGHT have more bugs than we or they wish.

If July TRULY is an option, It would've either been out well before the July 7th deadline as to stop a 2 day rush for everyone to buy Bionics July 4th-7th. Or it will most definitely be out well passed the July 7th + 14 day return window. They wouldn't release it in that window and have a Droid Charge return rush either. Neither of those options make ANY fiscal sense and money is all these companies care about.

For anyone who does not have an unlimited data plan at this very moment in time. Go out and buy the cheapest smartphone you can find new or used and slap on the verizon network to lock it in. Although be careful what agreements you sign for as well, you don't want to lock in 2 years on a Droid 1 or original blackberry or something and then pay full price for a Bionic.

A manager my friend knows said that he saw some release date flyer and bionic had Christmas presents around it. i hope that isnt the. case but thought id share what i heard yesterday
Unless Motorola only wants to sell a handful of Bionics, it will be released in the summer like they have previously stated.

Why would a flyer come out now with christmas presents on it? Im calling BS on this one. Unless you got some pics I think you are just trying to stir the pot.

Agree Ledgehanger it is common sense. It was a leak which means it wasnt supposed to get it and people could lose their jobs. But then again why dont you say he should out it and then his source lose his job and ultimately get no more leaks. Man some people's lack of common sense is unreal

I didn't mean revealing source's identity completely. Of course that won't happen. But these days most IT medias report rumors, leaks nearly everyday with mention of source vaguely. The fact that it was posted only in the forum, not even front news page of androidcentral means that he doesn't know the source at all or has no confidence in any timeframe in that list. It didn't make into any other IT news site needless to say. Completely meaningless leak...

That actually wouldn't surprise me at all.

Lots of retail stores do a "Christmas in July" marketing campaign.

It is in my oppinion that it will not be out buy the 7th when the new data plan will go into effect. My friend at Verizon has played with the bionic at one of his training classes and said it is well worth the wait. that being said Verizon is pretty smart when it comes to waiting until the July 7th + 14 days has past before the release. but on the consumer side its pretty D*** because im with another carrier waiting to switch and I am 99% sure ill be not gettign the unlimited data! I wish even for a day to have the option to get the unlimited plan. IE: phone comes out the 6th and people smart enough to get it before the new plan changes would get the unlim. but hey like that would happen.

If you want to switch to Verizon, it's pretty easy to get the unlimited data now and the Bionic later. You can get month to month no contract account/lines (not pre-paid but actual post-paid normal account) and buy a cheap older smartphone for $50 to $80 like the LG Ally or something even older Windows Mobile or Palm and stick it on the line with the unlimited data. Then when the Bionic is released your account will be eligible for upgrade so you can just upgrade and keep the unlimited data.

Ha alright if you say so. You do realize the blurry pics that these sites are just now getting have been leaked weeks ago with clear pics yet there was very little info on any of these sites til now? Guess that isnt credible:rolleyes:

I'm just surprised at how many people are completely discounting the info. Phil is one of the 3-4 people out of the 10's of Thousands of people posting on mobile forums that posts consistently reliable information.

I've never seen him post inaccurate information.

Here's an example. He posted something a few weeks ago saying that the Bionic would come out in July. Everyone scoffed at the information saying there was no way it would be done before August, especially recently because of this phantom "3rd revision", but over the past week we've been getting more and more confirmations all saying July 28th.

Now obviously we have no way to tell if it will actually come out on the 28th, but it sure looks like it will.

IF the report of Gingerbread being rejected is true and IF the Droid 3 and Bionic are supposed to have GB, I see no way at all how the Droid 3 or Bionic release in July and could be late August.

Only other option would be if the devices have Froyo, which we would all hope has NONE of the team that created the DX2 firmware.

If the info is true and Moto is setting up teams now, it could be about eight weeks before we can expect releases.

1. Teams have to be set-up
2. Roadmaps created
3. Bugs and tasks defined
4. Revise the code
5. Test in house
6. Rinse and repeat from item 3.
7. Once cleared by QA, a version (for each device) sent to VZW
8. If good, add up to two weeks to set up and publish- If bad, go BACK to item 3 again.

What you seem to overlook is the fact that they most likely have a different team working on these two phones. I think the gb that got rejected was for older phones. You notice no where did they say All gb builds from moto. I highly doubt verizon or moto wants to wait any longer than they already have to release the phone. Also they could have just moved on from the other phones to work on these two flagship phones and that is why the builds were so buggy. Not to mention moto has been working on this phone for months to get all the bugs and that worked out. I am still sticking with what people have been saying about the 14 for the droid 3 and the 28th for the bionic. We shall see.

I thought it was just a GB OTA update that got rejected? Maybe I'm getting bad info.

it was just the gb update. But gb has alot of issues and seems that when phones ship with an os they have less issues than when they get an update ota. I mean look at the droid x when it went from 2.1-2.2 people had a ton of issues, but people who got a phone after 2.2 was already installed had no issues.

Agree. He is one who actually does a little research before he just posts random things. He isnt one to just post the first thing that comes to him. He is usually pretty accurate with time frames and phones that are upcoming. But I guess not everyone is happy unless its on a big IT site.

I posted this on another section accidentally and asked the mods to move it but I just decided to repost here. (sorry)

Verizon Seems to be changing to tiered data plans on the 7th of July (Is this still true?)

If yo do not sign a new contract before July 7th, you will have tiered data (Away around this?)

I was really waiting for the Droid Bionic or Samsung SGS2/ Function.

I can either 1-purchase the charge from amazon for 139 and be done with it

OR

I can buy the phone from costco for 189, and maybe if a better phone comes out within 90 days, exchange it for that one e.g. bionic 3-4 weeks later.

What do you guys think?

True.

As long as you are currently paying for any data plan (on a smartphone) you will be grandfathered so that you can keep unlimited even if you go to 4G.

Me too.

I can either 1-purchase the charge from amazon for 139 and be done with it

Just wait for Bionic / Function.
