I'd suggest not to have it kill anything you want running when you wake your screen up from sleep mode. I wouldnt kill your messages app unless you have a 3rd party messaging app (Handcent or ChompSMS) I'd suggest not to kill the 3rd part messaging app because your notifcation or bubble will be gone when you wake your phone.

PS. This program will kill the selected programs when your phone wakes up from sleep/Lock screen...

I used to get bad battery usage... Like 12 or 13 hours on my phone... now I get probably around 20 hours with 3G (wifi) and email constantly running in the background...

Same here. I left my house this morning at quarter 'till 8 with a full charge. It's now almost 1:30 p.m. and I've still got 75% of my battery, and I haven't used Advanced Task Manager yet today. Facebook, Battery Widget, GMail, Messages and my ESV Bible Widget (and technically Advanced Task Manager) are all running too.

i have it set to close everything after 30mins.
i excluded some programs like tunewiki for when im listening to music going home.
my phone is constantly running smooth!
man i love this phone!
its like 80% automated
my backups (including setting) are backed up every sunday at 3am.
its like, this is the super phone....now!
with 2.1 its just going to get better!
this is the perfect phone to hold me over until the nexus one comes to verizon

I get 18 to 19 hours out of my battery everyday and I don't use task managers or killers of any kind. I have wifi and bluetooth turned off when not using them, GPS and mobile network are left on. I usually have 15% to 20% left on my battery at the end of the day. It is 5:40 where I am now and I have had the phone off the charger since 6:00 this morning. I am at 51% right now.

Oh and BTW, I have zero lag too.

Leaving Android alone to do its thing properly FTW!

No, I went one step further and built a freezer for my phone. The backpack cooling system is a little cumbersome, but it does make the battery last.

i took my phone off the charger yesterday morning at 8am and its now at 58%. Hasn't been on the charge since. I have a decent amount of texting throughout the day and playing on the phone (emails, market, websites). must be doing something right.lol

**oh and as of two days ago I stopped using a task killer and started using the back button to get out of programs and just manually close programs I need to when I need to. just fyi for you task killer users. Might want to reconsider using it for a little bit to see how it pans out.**

I send about 30 texts each day, browse for about 30 minutes each day w/Dolphin, and check my FB app about 5 times. I also keep my Gmail push on. No lag either.

It looks like your usage is a bit less than mine in browser usage and phone calls. I would like to truly optimize my setup and routine for battery life, without installing anything new.

It looks like your usage is a bit less than mine in browser usage and phone calls. I would like to truly optimize my setup and routine for battery life, without installing anything new.

I keep GPS, WIFI, and Bluetooth off. Mobile network is on. I have my Yahoo Mail check every 30 minutes. Google sync is on - Gmail push. The only widget I use is weather channel (location on). My screen brightness is about 25%.

With the numbers I posted a few hours ago, don't forget that my phone is in "airplane mode" for about 5 hours a day.

Since my last post at at 4.43pm, I have checked my Facebook page twice, sent/received 6 texts and had a 2 minute phone call. I just now hit the 15% warning to charge.


edit: I've been in signal areas that show two bars or higher consistently. These numbers would surely be different if I were to spend any time at all in a one bar or less signal area.

I felt obligated to update my experience this morning.

I took my phone off the charger at 8am, and only used it to send/receive 4 texts. I woke up my phone a few times to check the time while I sat in class. Signal was good the entire time (2-3 bars). No other use.

My phone is down to 79% in just those 3 hours. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary (i.e. used or downloaded any different apps). I'm going to fully charge my phone again and give this another trial. If the same drainage occurs, I will be reinstalling Task Panel.

I'll also say that I haven't reset my phone in the past 4 days. I haven't experienced any lag whatsoever.

I wonder if that variation is merely margin of error percentage of the battery gauge display, rather than actual battery charge percentage.

I am not an expert at all... that thought just came to mind because I too see variation in that battery display even with the same boring usages I am accustomed to.

I'm not sure. I use Spare Parts to check. I've also started waiting a few seconds after sending a text for the phone to change back to 3g before putting the phone to sleep. I've noticed it will stay in 1x if you don't give it time to switch back. This could be a problem too.

Hmm... what made me suspicious of the battery display accuracy was the signal strength accuracy:

(as I posted in another thread) on every other cell device I've owned I have not been able to make calls from a certain location in a building I am frequently in, the below ground floor of a large hospital.

This Eris also displays no bars in the signal strength meter, and yet I can call, message and browse the web in that location just as well as I can on the top floor or anywhere else; it's as if the meter is maxed out at 5 bars.

This has made me wonder about the display in general, including the battery meter: I had mine at the red, tiny little 15% mark for hours the other day and was using my Eris on the web and making calls. I finally put it on the charger just to be safe, but I could not run it down. I am sure I can if I wait long enough, but again, that meter could not have been accurate at 15% for over two hours of use at that point.

I've definitely run mine down all the way. Although, I do agree with you about the signal strength indicator. My phone is just like yours with the bars. I've found that when this occurs the phone works harder to get a signal and drains the battery quickly - even though we can make calls, etc.. I hope an update will fix this.

I just got my Eris about 2 weeks ago. I've been having battery problems and read on this forum to try a couple of things. I am now trying to not have ATK running, and see if my battery lasts longer. I took it off the charger yesterday morning, and had to put it back on the charger by dinner time. I barely used it - made a couple of phone calls, and a few texts, and it was almost dead. I haven't turned in my rebate form yet - waiting to see if the battery gets fixed by trying a few more things - including using not using the ATK and using the back button.

when is this task killer myth going to die?? It does nothing but slow down your phone and cause system instability!

The things you are killing will be restarted immediately after they are killed! It just makes it so you have to wait to start an app if you killed it. When an app is properly exited (back button not home) it goes into hibernate mode...it doesn't use power or memory until you call it up again.

The only time i kill tasks is if something isn't working, kill it to restart it manually.

I unplug at 4:30 am. When I get home, which at 7:30 pm, I am at 65%. I have one widget installed. Weather widget donate. wi-fi off, BT on. All other settings are standard. Auto brightness, mobile on, gmail push, yahoo checking every 15 minutes. Usage includes internet, email, texting, calls. I use the phone about the same every workday.

No Task Killers used.......

Quite happy with the Eris.
