Must-Have apps for the EVO 3D

Me too I got it free from Amazon and love it. I also use the dragon dictation and speak a lot of my text and it gets it right almost all the time except on occasion if I am driving on the highway. Now I had Vlingo before but there was a glitch with EVO 4G and Froyo 2.1 and it rebooted the phone so I rarely used it but I got it back now and am anxious to try the in car features.

I personally now like Flex T9 more than Swype, it was even free from Amazon!

PdaNet is absolutely awesome. We have a beefed up DSL connection in my house which can get anywhere from 192 kb/s to 250 kb/s. i am currently hooked up to my computer via usb cable on my 3vo's 4g, downloading a 1.9 gb file, getting a consistent 400 - 500 kb/s.

this is absolutely awesome.

I absolutely recommend PdaNet for tethering.

A few out-of-the-ordinary ones that I like:

Good Morning (the one by Flywheel with a yellow-and-blue flower-looking thing as the icon symbol)--Wakes me up in the morning with music, alarm (both pretty normal) but then by reading my calendar entries for the day to me, telling me the weather forecast, and reading any message I typed in.

WakeVoice--Similar to Good Morning, but slightly different. The voice that wakes you makes lame little jokes that change periodically, plus it will read the news. I alternate between the two programs for my alarm on different days.

Astro File Manager--Not that out of the ordinary, but great app!

Galaxy Wire and PhysOrg.com News--Space and science news for geeks.

Mvideo Player--Better video player than the stock one on my EVO 4G, I haven't really compared it to the one on the 3D yet.

FoxyRing--I've never used the program, but I really like the widget that comes with it. Lets you quickly silence your phone for a period up to five hours, but the sound will come back on automatically at the end of that time, even if you forget to intervene.

GasBuddy

EONW (Effects of Nuclear Weapons)--For the morbidly curious creep in all of us.

Pulse or MyTaptu--News feed organizers

RadarNow--Fast, simple non-fancy radar. Essential for those who live in Tornado Alley.

QuintessArt--If you don't care for the art yourself, use it to try to impress cultured women! :D

Tricorder by Moonblink--Incredibly cool and geeky app, especially if you are a fan of Star Trek TOS. Even if you are too young for Kirk and Spock, this thing uses the sensors in your phone to do some really cool things that actually work!

Wifi Analyzer by Kevin Yuan

I've actually used Sprint Radio a few times as a change from Pandora. I realize I may be the only person on the planet who did this. Occasionally I find Sprint TV has free peeks at channels that are actually worth a darn, and I'll watch 'em if I'm traveling and bored.

I actually enjoy some live wallpapers on a short-term basis till I get tired of 'em for the moment. The ones by Kittehface tend to be good, especially Aquarium Live and Friendly Bugs.

Hi This is my first post here.

This is my first smart phone, I love it so far. I know many of you have had several droids already so you already know most of these apps but some of us dont. but as a first timer here this post is awesome. It explains why each of his choices are useful. I know how to use a search button but with a list of 30 apps I have never heard of that is kind of a daunting task. So thanks for the explanation of each app. I hope more of you will do this.

I have an app question? I used to use find my car lite. I park my car in a parking garage and I know that when I 1st got this app and this is weird but it had a white checkered background with this arrow and the arrow was on the 5th line and I was on the 5th floor. I don;t know if that was a coincidence or not. I never got it to do that again. After that it just showed me a map and I had to know what floor I was on and it would direct me.

Anyway what's the best find my car app out there and is there one that really can show you what floor of a parking garage your on? I usually kind of remember the spot but never the floor. But I know find my car lite when I 1st got it the way it showed this arrow on the 5th X and I was on the 5th floor I thought it was weird. But I didn't know if find my car apps really do that or not. Thanks,

I'd post a link if I could get a clean one. :(

Ok, so goto amazon.com and use their search for Apps for Android.

You'll want to already have an Amazon account to proceed. On that page to the right is a tool: Download the Amazon Appstore - enter your phone number or email there. You'll get a pop-up with step-by-step instructions and little video on how to proceed to download their appstore app.

Each day, they give away a paid app for free. You can get an app, try it, uninstall it if you don't like it or aren't sure yet. After that, it shows in your bullpen so you can re-download as often as you need - works thru resetting or losing apps, no problem.

No telling if the feebie is going to be a moose or a dog so you have to check every day and see what's available that day. Once you've missed a chance for a paid app for free, no do-overs, you've missed it.

Hope this helps!

BTW and FWIW - I've moved from swiping to SwiftKey and find that because of its next word prediction, it's faster for me. I can bang out sentences and not type much.

I thought most, if not all, of these apps ran off of marking a GPS location? My solution, although not as eloquent as an app, would be to suggest this: Take a picture of the markings on the support pillars where you park. Most of the time, they mention which floor. If they don't, take a picture of the floor before you get in the elevator/stairs.
