Ok so I finally decided to go for one of the two after the precious help from the members in here. And now I have been stuck thinking if I should go for the extra 1600mah of flytouch 3 or for facepads extras, which that would make the good looking, sturdier build (as i read), being able to access facebook (not that I care for it) and it being slightly faster as people say in certain apps... and i forgot the main reason I am pondering on it which is the speaker!

Well both of them seem to be the exactly same thing and flytouch only just bigger battery. I can say facepad looks sexy and the speaker is tempting.

How many more hours would 1600mah give extra? And really.. is it easy to replace the batteries in the future to make it 8000mah too? (Easy as in just needing screwdrivers)

Oh and afar from that. Is it better to go for a low cost (internal storage) one and buy an external mSDHC class 10? Or just go for the 32gb internal?

I was pondering this question as well. I actually just now FINALLY got my money back from the scam clone seller, and and chosing between the iBex Facepad and the iBex Flytouch3. I am leaning towards the Facepad as louder speakers is totally a plus when outside or with friends.

I would def just go ahead and get the 32gb Version instead of trying to uprade yourself; there is much that can go wrong and from I hear the card has to be specially formatted.

well personally I do not mind if its 6 hours to 8 hours. 6 hours sounds pretty well to me too. Although I kinda imagine watching video will cut the battery's energy faster XD. I wonder if the replacement battery pack for flytouch 3 works with facepad.

8 hours is a bit optimistic. The 8000mAh battery is 25% higher capacity than the 6400mAh battery and as pretty much everything else in the FT3 is the same then you should expect it to last 25% longer. So, dependent on what you are going to be doing with the tab, a 6400mAh one should last about 4 to 5 hours and the 8000mAh one should last 5 - 6 hours. Everybodys experience will be different though as different usage patterns will affect duration.

I don't really think it makes much difference which way you go with the internal/external tf card question.
The system partitions the internal card. It makes a ~2.5GB partition for the operating system and another partition of the remaining space, in the case of a 4GB internal tf card you end up with ~940MB free. This doesn't sound like much but almost everybody will be updating their firmware because of the huge improvements it brings, of which one is the re-organisation of the mounting of the partitions. After installing Tims firmware and an app called Link2SD almost all the data of installed apps is moved to the SD card (which is either the second partition on the internal tf card or the first partition on the external tf card. I currently have about 50 apps installed and my internal memory is 938MB in the partition and of that 720MB is still free and 5GB is used on my external tf card. I doubt i will ever get to the stage when my internal 4GB tf card is full.

There was a post not long ago claiming a class 10 card was actually slower in some applications than the default class 4 card because the class 10 card had poor random write speeds.

I have the default 4GB card in the internal slot, I believe it is a class 2 one and I have a 16Gb class 10 card in the external slot as this is where I download films to. Video playback does not involve much random writing!!

So 'yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice' !!

The only 'special' formatting you might need is some posters have reported problems getting their tablets to see the upgrade files when trying to re-flash firmware, sometimes they have then succeeded after using SDFormatter utility on their PC's to format the external tf card... thats all....you shouldn't have to touch your internal card....ever!

>.> well dart you really answered every possible question I could even have in the future @.@! Indeed the internal memory will be used as storage of programs. I doubt i will be playing games on it much if at all and if i will it will be 2-3. As for programs I am not sure if i mentioned it but I really just want it for watching videos and reading books and comic. And 8GB Facepad it is :). Just to have enough free space on it for whatever case. And I am going to get a 16gb class 10 card. I have a couple of microSD cards if it will be needed for a reflash. Now I will have to choose a brand for the SD. Aw well :)

Thanks again for all the help and sorry for all the questions and stuff. Next time I will be back to give you a headache, umm i mean ask you questions iwll be probably when I will open the pad and I will be asking about rooting and such :) Have a wonderful day everyone.

@dart16, thanks for that really helpful information since I too have a 4GB internal TF and was wondering if I should upgrade. Being an Android noob I still don't understand all that you have said. Are you saying that your 50 apps are all installed in the internal TF or is it that they reside on external TF (so take up 5 GB) and only their data is in internal card?

In general is it better to store the apps on internal or external card? I think internal is best except when you need to reflash the firmware (either you need to backup or reinstall all of them). With external you just plug the card back in and they should all work?

sansjunk I think dart16 meant that even if his internal storage space is 938MB (since the system uses the rest 3GB I guess), all the applications he uses do not go over 200MB. He uses the external TF card for storage of video files but stores all the applications in the internal storage. At least thats what I got from what he said "Do not worry how large your internal storage is, android applications do not take too much space"

Btw I want to ask another thing. TF cards are mSD right?

50 applications + data for them takes only 200MB? I doubt it. Also then why is link2sd required?

I think I can answer that. Yes TF (TransFlash) is the same as micro SD. The Chinese still use the old name

Data for them? Well I am not knowledgable on how android works. But afar from android OS plus whatever it needs to run the tablet which is 3GB I do not see why applications need to take up more space. At least in Windows there are many applications that you see they take up 100s of MB and yet there are usually freeware that do the same job and they hardly take a couple of MB. Still I am not sure what you mean data for them hmmm >.> Android is really interesting from a glance btw.

Thank you very much for tellign me about the TF. I kept getting confused about it :)

Ok.. I'll try again!!
without the Link2SD application and Tims firmware, every application you install will go on the internal partition, filling the available 900MB quite quickly, so if you don't want to change the firmware buy a bigger internal card. With tims firmware and the Link2SD app things are a bit different. System apps cannot be moved from the internal partition. Non-system apps can however, or at least part of them can. So the Link2SD application, once active, takes the files that can be moved and moves them to the external card and places a link in the original folder on the internal partition so the system can find the files when the application is launched, In this way, the internal partition stores the links to the installed applications' files which are on the external card.....900MB is shedloads of space for that!
My 50 odd applications mainly reside on the external tf card, with the remaining system apps and links sitting on the internal partition. Any film I watch I usually stick on a usb flash drive and watch it from there, or if I want to keep it for longer it gets copied to the external tf card.

Ohhhhhh I see. So that software does that. Well like I said I am really new to Android and I know nothing although. I am not sure what you mean about changing firmware but I know that newer firmware = better operation. Also if rooting like people refer it to is a part of updating the firmware I guess I will definitely do it since everyone says that after that the tablet gets much much better. Actually rooting was the main reason I looked for a tablet with support and did not go for Dawa D9 or any cheap Cortex A8 that hardly I could find anything on the net.

I have a question about link2sd. Adding it means like you said it moves every app that can be moved and is not used by the system to the external memory leaving only a link like virtual folder in the internal. Will I be able to eject the external memory at any time while the tablet is turned on or I will have to turn it off?

The usual caveats apply to the removal of all memory devices, you *should* un-mount it before removing it to ensure all write operations have been completed, but you don't need to turn the tablet off.

Sounds easy enough. I am glad it can be removed. I would prefer to copy some files straight to it instead of doing it through a usb. Well anyway thanks again :)

yes.. it sounds easy!! Unfortunately when you install Tims firmware it changes the mount points for the tf cards so the default file browser called MyPad wont un-mount the tf card... you have to go to menu/settings/SD card & device storage and unmount the tf cards there.

I would say that, this is not a hassle but I am so lazy I never unmount my usb devices from my pc. I just wait to see the usb device is not reading from its reading indication light thingie. And no when it does not have one I just make sure I am not using anything from it and pull it XD. Well still I am sure that does not apply to the pad. Even if it did I would still be too worried of corrupting anything and then cry a river. Aw well it worths it. Hmmm now to choose a class 10 card hm hm hm.

>.> oh people voted more for flytouch >.> I feel bad now I bought the facepad XD

@dart16
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Couple more questions if you don't mind :p

  1. How does backup app like Titanium work when you use link2SD? Though the apps are in SD you'd still backup in case of FW upgrade since the links are still in internal TF? Also I guess you *have* to backup to the same SD as where you have the apps or you can backup to a USB drive?
  2. If I do take the route to upgrade the internal TF I remember reading the market problem in dealing with large free space - do you know if this issue is solved or can we use app like link2SD to move the files to a another partition in the internal TF card thereby overcoming market issue?
Thanking in advance for answering the questions. I wish we had a FAQ where we could put these Q&A so it'll help many noobs like me!

I can't answer question 1 I'm afraid, but I guess that as titanium backup makes its backups after Link2SD has moved the date it will look to TB as though all the files are still in the internal memory and will make the backup as normal. When restoring Link2SD will re-move the files back to the external location....but its only a guess!

To Market, the system partition is still ~3GB irrespective of the actual capacity of the tf card, so there should not be a problem.

OK, I need to understand more about how Tim's FW partitions the internal card. If link2SD can be used to move apps from internal market partition (3GB limit) to another internal larger partition only then it would make any sense to upgrade the internal card. At least for me since I want to use the internal card only for apps and external one only for data.

No.. not the ~3GB partition..thats reserved for the operating system.

The original firmware did not partition the 4GB card. The external tf slot was mounted as sdcard. With the original firmware if you fitted a larger internal tf card you had a problem with market, so later updates partitioned the internal tf into ~3GB for the operating system and the remainder as sdcard, this led to a problem when you inserted the external tf card. I don't know how Tim has done it but he has 'frigged' it, and this is where is gets a bit murky, Android installs apps onto 'sdcard', on the original firmware this meant the external tf card, but with the modified firmwares this means the second internal tf partition, this is a problem as it ain't very big when you just have a 4GB card! so you install Link2SD and it moves the actual files from an installed application to the 'other sdcard' (the external one).If you have a 16 or 32GB internal tf you don't need Link2SD as you have plenty of space to store data on the internal tf card, and the only use for the external slot is for firmware upgrades.

All the above is 'as I understand it' and could be utter b%^^%
