OK ... so I have been through alot of the posts.. could not find one that matched my EXACT problem.. My girlfriend has an LG optimus m from metro and i'm attempting to root her phone but I am new to this phone as I have an EVO 4G but she saw all the things i did to mine and wants in on it! lol but anyway.. I have been trying to plug the phone into the computer to mount the SD card to put some of the files on there and cant seem to mount to my pc... i have turned OFF debugging, checked to make sure it was being used as mass storage device in settings, and checked the notification bar to see if the link to mount as disk drive is there but it is not. can anyone please help? also wanted to know how to reboot into recovery on this phone because it is not the same as the evo (power on, volume down) THANKS AGAIN!

The Optimus M requires drivers to connect to a PC. They're available for download from their site.

The Optimus has no stock recovery. If you had been successful, you would've wiped her phone, lol. Once you get Custom Recovery installed, you can hold Vol Down+Home+Power to access the menu.

OH that explains the recovery mode.. but i have already tried downloading the drivers SEVERAL times and i do have them so that isn't the problem... I have plugged it in and it worked fine for me before but now i'm not sure.

What OS is your PC running?
You might try another box. As I told another member, I've got two identical XP Pro SP2 boxes but my sons Huawei Ascend would only mount correctly on one of them. The other machine it would only mount as a CDROM.

If you are just trying to root, use the appropriate app to do that. It is z4root for version 2.2 of the OS and GingerBreak for version 2.2.1. If you want to install a different ROM then you will have more steps after that, but it will get you started. If you still cannot get the USB to work then you can still pull the card out and use a card reader or email the file to the phone.

I do not believe that anyone has sucessfully used SuperOneClick to root an Optimus. Gingerbreak seems to work well on 2.2.1 from what I understand. I have 2.2.

Read up the info on this board. You should find all you need. Beer careful renovating bloat if you do that because some are more important than they seem. For example the stock browser is essential for the market to work.
Do not include Beer, before or after renovating bloat.
It's a no refuse weekend in our state. ;)
