Con's: Video playback is very limited. The G1 would not play .mpg or .wmv files which are pretty much the standard when it comes to videos downloaded off the net.

I am very disapointment. BlackBerry Storm and HTC Touch Pro do have the wmv files! Videomail is the best messages for Deaf Communities.

Deaf Communities will be disapointment as I do!

I would think T-Mo would put some gag orders on him or something... I don't know... plus who knows if he has the production model or not.

Please remember that 5 of the 6 CONS mentioned, can be resolved with either an update/patch to the OS, or software.
Just like all new devices that come out in the world of technology, give it time. Developers, and enthusiasts will no doubt solve more of these issues.

I wouldn't worry about video playback, 3rd party and other tweaking will fix this. I think it's a bit soon to pass judgement on a device you don't even have yet. I'd use the 14 day trial, then make your decision.

For instance, one of the cons listed is "No virtual QWERTY keyboard included." w00t! Yes! I hate those bastards. For me that's a Pro. Another one listed is"The battery charger makes the bottom of the phone extremely hot." Pretty much any phone I've had gets hot when it charges. Some people's definition of "extremely hot" is 120 degrees, Mine is 180. It would have been much more valuable for him to measure the temp with an infrared gun, so we can have a real number, not a subjective "feeling".

Relax folks, it's gonna be ok.

The thing we have to remember is that he is talking about the phone that will be shipped. But the beauty of the Android platform is the fact that the community is essentially the ones who dictate the features of the phone through software. Not TMO or any carrier for that matter.

So whatever features we (the consumer) may feel are lacking, can be fixed through community demand. Basically meaning, if the community wants it enough, someone within the community will create it. So I wouldn't worry about what the phone has or hasn't. When the power of the phone is in the OS and the OS allows for infinite possibilities. Just look at the iTunes remote for an example.

Or just browse the Android Marketplace and look at the applications that are being created or outright complete as we type. This is a platform to truly be excited about. And with Google backing it, then yes, the possibilities are only limited by the imagination of the community.


And one more thing, who in the heck thinks .wmv or mpeg is the standard for videos? I coulda sworn .avi is more widely used than any other standard. Guess I was wrong, but when it comes to any movies or whatever I have stored, .avi gets my vote. Either way, I bet you someone creates vlc for this thing. Hell I got vlc on my psp for cryin out loud.

u guys seem to forget that its open source. if they got the crappy iphone to record short videos then trust that fact that someone WILL come up with a way. who knows? they might port "COREplayer" to android. as far as video recording goes? take a look a tokplay, its a video messaging app for android but it does other things aswell..and IN THE END...if google does do it, then u don't need it ::smiles in slow motion::.

seriously tho, i NEED video recording and i'm being very optimistic about it, don't worry bro, once the phone come out, give it another few weeks and there will be PLENTY more apps.

Why should I ask CSDVRS? It is not neccessarily to ask. When I purchased AT&T HTC Tilt. When I opened email and there was no problem when I can view the video from the attachment.

Please study harder... HTC TILT and HTC Touch Pro do have WMV files. I repeat this.


Some devices are not compatiable. So I am wondering about G1! I hope G1 is working unless if they know what I am talking about.

1. You are NOT explaining what you are seeking.
I have had to piece together several of the sentences of several of your posts.
2. Your sentences are fragmented and not fully complete. Somethings that you say are not understood by others. This is the reason why you have not found an answer to your 'questions'.


You need to understand that the G1 has not released yet. There will be time for many more applications to be released and updates to the operating system.
We don't know how long, but ... wait long enough, and your solution of having Windows Media files may be answered.

Not much reason to return a phone when your able to upgrade the firmware. It might have some limitations at the moment but it'll get better as time passes, plus being open source I'm sure we'll see a lot of regular user's implementing these features and more.

Well, if you don't want to do that, would it work if you forward the video email to your Gmail account and it might play that way?

You can call the company and ask if they can add a supported format for the g1 phone.

This is a serious problem. Your CSDVRS provider is using a propriety format instead of a standards based one.

You should encourage them to support one of the more standard formats instead of Micro$oft proprietary format.
