which is BEST SMS App to replace stock?

Getting to the point where I would like a more robust SMS app. Like one I can put a sig on, etc.

Question is ....which one is best? Some say Handcent, others say Go SMS Pro is really good too. Handcent UI looks a little childish though...

Handcent looks childish? You can customize it to look as "mature" as you want. I think chomp looks the most cartoony

I use Handcent and have for 2+ years. Has numerous customaizations, themes etc. It also has the ability to back-up all your sms/mms, for a price.

What about the stock Android sms app? After having an og Droid for 18 months, this sense sms is bugging the crap out of me. Same woth the htc keyboard. Possible to get vanilla Android keyboard and sms app on this thing?

GoSMS, Handcent, and Chomp are the industry standards, i guess.

i use stock sense. nothing wrong with it.

Definitely Handcent for getting the stock look, I never did like the conversation bubble style of iphone which Chomp and Go seem to love.

Well...I like the stock sense sms, I usually leave things vanilla (and thats why my equipment usually doesn't give me problems) BUT I really need the ability to put a sig on my SMS because I'm tired of people texting me back with "who is this?" I dont see aplace to do this on the stock SMS. Maybe with Gingerbread?

I love GoSMS. It is free, allows for tons of customization, colors, text etc. It recently had an upgrade and it is working great now with swype. Originally I was having trouble with swype/gosms having to reset the choice I wanted. Now everything is work great and fast.

Go allows you too get rid of the bubble style if you want. I think it was in the last update.

SwiftKey has a free beta version that I'm loving right now for keyboards.

Handcent is fantastic over stock Sense SMS. You may also want to try Swiftkey, or Better Keyboard for a replacement keyboard application.

I use chomp. I tried hancent, but the quick reply window just doesn't look as nice as chomp which has Facebook contact photo and everything. For me the stock app is literally unusable. There is always a new message number bubble even when I don't have one. It's impossible to scroll and I have sent texts to wrong people too many times. I will click troy on a persons name. 2 minutes later the conversation will pop up but it won't be the right one. I was hoping the update would fix this. But it hasn't come out yet.

I liked GoSMS Pro when I used it. There are a lot of themes and many options.
