htc hero sprint insurance, worth it?

I am 20 days into my 2 year contract. 10 days left to buy insurance for my phone (Hero) for 7$ a month. Worth it?

The $100 deductible has me running already. Can I cancel the insurance at any time?

OK, I'm going to take this as a serious question. Hell ya its worth it!!

Now with the BB insurance, they only cover your phone if it broken and what not. If you lose it or its stolen, your screwed.

I have the Sprint insurance on my phone. I am very happy I have it. The phone is worth more than 100 dollars. I like having that piece of mind knowing if my phone gets damaged or stolen, its covered. You can cancel at anytime if you want :)

I was debating getting insurance, also. I finally bit the bullet and got it. I feel a little better knowing that if I run over it or something I can get it replaced.. On the other hand, it looks like they're going for around $300 on ebay....

i wonder if anyone has actually ran over there phone on accident.? LOL That would take a special kind of someone I think.

I have read that it is cheaper to get an insurance policy (like a homeowners policy), just on your expensive electronics (separate from any other policy to avoid price hikes because you have to use it more often) from an insurance agency. Get a full-replacement policy (not estimated value at time of loss/damage) with little to no deductible. The overall cost per year is MUCH less than $7 per month and in many cases (including mine), there's less of a deductible or none even.

I have done this with my laptop and my cell phones and have found it to be cheaper and better coverage overall.

in my opinion... NO it aint worth it. (for most individuals)

lets say... you go 5 yrs...
and only need it once!
$7 x 12months x 5 yrs = $420
plus $100 deductible
total =$540

also what if you needed your insurance close to the end of your contract? say on the 23rd month, you lost your phone? Will you pay $100 for a replacement Hero? or wait and pay $180 for the next great phone??
what if you need the insurance after the 2 yr contract is up??

Most don't have issues with loosing or breaking their phone often! so it aint worth it...

but some people.. seam to have bad luck with phones and accidents... are u one of those people???
THEN INSURANCE WAS DESIGNED FOR U IN MIND!

PS.. i think i just jinxed myself!!!

My wife and I have made good use of our insurance. Expecially the time she had her Mogul in her pocket of her hoodie and had sai hoodie around her waist. Long story short shut it in the car door. We paid our $100 and got it replaced with a Touch Pro because they stopped issuing the Mogul. I've also had a similar upgrade myself no deductable because it was an internal thing.

My sister's family has 4 iphones. In less than a year, one of them has been stepped on and crushed and another has been dropped in a toilet. No insurance on them. They had to buy a new one at full retail to replace the one that was stepped on. Luckily, the one dropped into the toilet was dried out and put back into use without any problems.

I got the insurance on my Hero but only expect to keep it for about a year.

I completely agree.

Do the math.

$100 deductible + $7 month x 24 months = $268 if you replace your phone once(and you will probably get a refurbished phone). If you have to replace it twice = $368. If you are patient, you can get one for $275 right now on eBay. In a year from now, once a newer version is out, you will be able to get these phones for about $100 -$150 on eBay.

These insurance companies are not offering this out of the kindness of their hearts, they make huge bucks from these plans.

Be careful with your phone and it will last. Also, you have 1 year manufacturer warranty that covers defects.

I've been with Sprint for 10 years. The insurance is worth it, and probably one of the better insurance available among the various companies. Yeah, a lot of the time you probably will not use it, if you baby your phone. But if you are rough on your phone, things do happen. I've had to use my insurance multiple times, and I have never had a problem getting coverage. If it is something with the phone malfunctinig itself, they will often just give you another one no cost. If you drop it in water, for instance, it is, I think, 100 dollars now. In my opinion and experience it is worth it, and I've had good experience with it.

Until you can buy a replacement for less than the deductible, i'd say insurance is worth it, I for one dont have an extra $300 lying around to replace it should something happen, but i'm pretty certian I could scrape up $100 if need be. And I dont notice the $7/mo because it's always been on my account. Whats $7 anyway? Two cups of coffee at Starbucks? Just make coffee at home twice a month and it will balance out.....

I have been with Sprint just over two years and carried insurance the whole time. My Mogul took a Coke bath. My Touch Pro died when I doged a drunk in a parking lot. My Hero got stolen. The Hero was when it was still 50 to replace it. The insurance has been a lifesaver and more than worth the cost. If you have one of the unlimited plans you are a premier customer and can upgrade once a year so it's 94 bucks to cover your phone until you upgrade. These phones are not rugged and do break easily. It is an investment in peace of mind at the very least and a lifesaver at most. I highly recommend getting the insurance.

if premier clients can upgrade in 1 yr...
then insurance is less worth it...

I can upgrade every year.
I have old smart phones laying around and if I lost my phone.. I would just use an old phone till I can get new upgrade to newest greatest product.
Which you know most of us do have old phones some place!

so:
$7 x 12
$100
then still purchase the next great phone!!!

Sprint and insurance ... are not stupid
they will make there $$ from you!!!

but i do agree some individuals need insuarane
accident prone
peace of mind
people that dont need the $7 a month :p

of course the insurance company makes money. But it doesn't mean insurance isn't worth it. They have agreements for the hardware price you can't get. Not everyone breaks, loses, or has their phone stolen. But just because they make a profit doesn't mean that it is not worth it. Their deals are why they make money and their money is made over everyone who has the policy. They have lost money on me most likely even with their deals but will make a profit on my wife and yet it makes financial sense for us to have insurance.

Replacing your phone on insurance also doesn't affect your upgrade date at all. If I break my phone a month before I can upgrade then 100 is still a deal for me and I can still upgrade cheap and not be without a phone at all.

The low price of 7.00 a month is easily a better to have and not need situation than it is a cost issue. Skip one Starbucks grande a month and get insurance and none of us will have to hear anyone whine about having to replace a phone at full cost.

Take it from someone that used to work at a Sprint retail store. It happens...all the time.

My absolute favorite though was this...

Customer: Handing me her phone, "My phone won't turn on"

Me: Now holding the phone, "Did anything happen to it?"

Customer: "I was peeing in the toilet and talking on the phone at the same time."

Me: "And.....?"

Customer: "Yes, I dropped it in"

Me: "....and thank you so much for warning me of that BEFORE I touched your phone..."
