I love my hero, but the hero is not for everyone.

I tell everyone this... The Hero is awesome, but the Android OS simply isn't for everyone (yet). It's only a year old and it isn't as intuitive as the more established OSs (imo).

For anyone switching from Palm, and who uses Palm Desktop for syncing, I always suggest palm's Data Transfer Assistant to get contacts and whatnot to your new phone (it syncs to google, conveniently).

Having come from several Palm devices (both Palm OS & WinMo) along with the horrific Mogul, and then back to Blackberry for three devices, I decided to try a screen that my late middle-aged eyes could see easier. Is it a perfect phone? You have to be kidding! Is there a perfect phone? Even that rhetorical question is laughable. But, is it a terriffic phone for almost everyone? I think so. And there is a ton up support from people who know this phone well. I suggest finding a Sprint store that has someone that not only sells the Hero, but has it as THEIR phone. That's what sold me on moving from my Tour to the Hero.

Good Luck!

DO IT, I went from bb 8330, which was great, other than the old school feel and lack of moderness, returned the moment- the hw keyboard was way overrated and the virtual one lagged for some reason, no idea if it was a bad unit or not, then to the hero. And i have to say i love my hero, mega customizable, great for a buisness phone, email is great, contacts, etc. I would highly recommend you get the hero. its a great device out of the box, and after updates, and/or custom rom, it is better than anything i could imagine. Def do it, you will not regret it.

ps--if your worried about the virtual kb, dont be, i, myself, like it much better than the hw kb on the moment

+1...And you guys are talking about a phone that is going on 3 years old, I think, no? Majority of people have moved on to different phones.

Or have gone to other roms. Don't know about anybody else, but I've yet to get an ics or jb Rom to run without any issues anyways. And you can get the ics camera to run on gb so that takes care of that ;)

I do not think you are going to see a trouble-free Android 4.x ROM, which includes Ice Cream Sandwich and the different versions of Jelly Bean, on the Sprint HTC Hero. The hardware is a bit too old for it and those versions of Android were really designed with ARMv7 hardware in mind, not the ARMv6 hardware that is in our handsets. :(

There have been attempts at porting Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean to our handsets, and they work decently, but not perfectly. The Sprint HTC Hero had an amazing run for up to date developer support, and it is still supported even today, so we should be happy and thankful for that. :)
