Hi guys,

I rooted my GS2 with a Kernel file i got from xda Dev site and it seemed to complete ok with no errors and my phone hasnt been bricked yet. I do find a few things strange though.. The Kernel version still shows the same (is this right?) and when I try to use AdFree application it says it can not access root??

Have i missed something? The device starts up with yellow triangle and the log on [ROOT APP] Updated: 27/06/11 - S2 Root v1.0 - One Click Root and UnRoot! - xda-developers that I used for rooting all passed..

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I did not use this method, so if it did't work I suggest you use the CF-Root method.

To check if your phone is rooted search for an installed app called 'Superuser'. If you have it then you are rooted.

There are also many other apps on the market that will only work with root (Titanium Backup) and are good ways of testing.

The triangle on boot suggests that it has worked; 'Adfree' may just be playing up as normal. Maybe it will work on another kernel.

Thanks for the response. I re rooted it using the Chainfires method but only got as far as this.....
Instructions - ODIN (long)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)

I have the SU and CWM but where does super one click come into it? I also want to put the stock kernel back on but I am confused in all the posts flying around. I didnt download superone click so Im not sure how my phone is rooted when I only did what it states above? Yes Im a noob and my head hurts already lol.

Haha, don't worry!

What you have done by following the CF-Root guide is replaced your stock kernel with chainfire's modified rooted kernel. Your phone IS rooted as Super One Click was not needed. Your new kernel is exactly the same as the stock kernel but it has root access. If you go back to the real stock kernel then you will loose root. But there is no real reason for you to do this.

So now, you can relax... :D

Thanks.. I did reflash the origional stock kernel over the top and I still have root access (KE2_original.tar) was the file from one of Chainfires posts. I used Quadrant to test my phone and am getting between 3500 - 3900 scores so I guess I am happy now. I have a power off issue that I will try to discuss in the relevant forem though since rooting (and installing goodies such as Titanium back up SetCPU,Tegrak Overclock,Juice Defender). Thanks for your help.
