Root Did I read that a .596 SBF exists? Or should I SBF .340?

Hello,

I'm getting yet another replace DX from VZW as the previous replacement they sent me didn't actually get fixed before they sent it to me...still has the defective earpiece and pixelized screen. So, another will be arriving next week. Problem is, I'm not sure what should be on the phone I send back to them...obviously not what's on there now.

I'm running the rooted GB two file update. I did a clean update from an SBF'd .340. Should I go back to Froyo on this phone? Or the official OTA GB (if it even exists).

Second part of my question, if the new phone comes with the OTA GB installed (fairly likely, I'd guess), can I SBF to an earlier version or run the rooted version right on top? Or am I screwed and doomed to live without root?

The way I understand it, 596 OTA can be SBF'd to 340. TBH has the 596 sbf file. It is still unrootable.

if you want the official ota, there is an easier way, considering the .596 isnt yet rootable by any other means, its easier if you go to the .340 and then take the ota

if you're simply just returning the phone to VZW then the .596 SBF should work absolutely fine for your needs...

if you're keeping the phone and want root...then the .596 SBF is pretty useless for you...

I SBF'd back to .340 after .596 OTA, so if the OTA and the SBF are the same, (which should be the case...) It shouldn't be a problem. when you SBF, you are bypassing all the system files to reload the device. Whether you're on .340 or .596 or whatever makes no difference to the bootloader.

i had assumed the same thing...but at the same time a Maderstcok flash SHOULD allow you to upgrade to Gingerbread but it doesn't...

so im sure its possible that the .596 SBF does something different and does not allow you to return to .340...i had just never heard it before..

I also sbf'd to 340, took the gb ota and then re-sbf'd. If you can't sbf back to 340 after gb sbf, that's alarming to me.

I used the.596 SBF, then after awhile on it I got tired of stock and I was able to SBF back to .340. then I flashed the rooted version of .596. So yes you can SBF back to .340 after SBFing using the .596 version

I aslo took the ota after flashing back... was able to yet back tho(?)
