When people don't get 3G coverage they yell out on here "then why am I paying for 3G!". It bothers me because its ignorance. All the commercials say "3G not available everywhere". Your not paying for 3G, your paying for mobile broadband regardless of the network upgrades. All 3G is, is an upgrade that's advertised as faster but that's it. That's my semi rant I hope people understand this before they post about bad coverage.

No, they ARE indeed paying for that 3G coverage, as it is one of their KEY marketing points. If you bought internet access, and it was HEAVILY advertised as 12mbps, but in the fine print they say minimum of 4mbps and average of say 8, but you only got 4.1 on an average daily basis, you would be a little peeved too.

Uh no. Read the fine print and no where does it say your paying for network upgrades. Sure 3G is forced down your throat but that's advertisement not realistic statements. I bought toaster strudels the other day, the box made them look 9x better with a perfect pattern of frosting, etc. I'm not paying for the picture on the box/ advertisement I'm paying for the toaster strudels.

Well you put that icing on them yourself, you can't really blame them for that can you...?

And, if you leave the area where the provider says you get 3G, who's to blame?

You are still proving the OP's point. If you follow the directions/fine print carefully, you get what you insist upon. If you stray, you get what you actually paid for. It may not be as pretty as the ad, but it's what you are paying for...
