Help Sending Video Messages

So I decided to record several videos on the fourth of July using my 3VO camcorder. Now today, I have tried to send them to a friend and every vid says it has exceeded the size limit. There must be something I am doing wrong because a couple vids are only 6 seconds! If I cant even send a 6 second video then this option is completely worthless. I usually just try to attach the vid in text message form. Is there an app that allows me to send larger videos? FWIW, my friend that I am trying to send it to has a Droid from Verizon, but that should be irrelevant. Thanks in advance.

If you can't plug into a PC, grab Astro and check the file sizes under /sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA.

6 seconds of HD vid (2D or 3D) will rack up around 6 to 7 MB or more, depending on motion details.

No way you can SMS/MMS files of that size.

The apps that get around that are:

  • SMS/MMS with basic low-res vid (that why that's supported) but that's a maybe, res and file size has to be low
  • email - but even email has MB xfer limits, so note that
  • upload to YouTube and SMS your friends the link

Hope that helps.

PS - Yes, or drop-box, always forget about drop-box.

3 quick questions if you can help...

1. Is there an app in the market that automatically resizes the vid to a lower res to fit in mms? If you don't know I will also ask this in the App thread.

2. What is this drop-box method you speak of?

3. Do you know the current max size we can send through sms/mms?

TIA

This will cover all your drop-box questions, vid included. :)

Dropbox - Simplify your life

SMS/MMS limit and apk to downconvert - sorry, somebuddy else will have to cover those.

Whatever the SMS/MMS limit is, it's not much, and varies (just a little bit) by carrier, and can be influenced whether within-carrier messages or between-carrier messages, I do know that.

So i hear that 3d videos are converted by the phone when sent as a txt or email, through an option that comes up when being sent that asks if you want to send as 3d or 2d,i am trying to send a video and so far it just says format unsupportable and there is no option to send in 2d to another cell.if the htc doesnt support that is there a free option i have that doesnt include uploading personal vids?

You got to remember that these phones aren't like camera phones from a few years ago. Recording in higher definition takes up a lot of memory. A 6 second video on our 3vo's recorded in 720p is atleast 5mb(which is still compressed), and thats a lot for a phone. Personally if know I am taking a video with the intention of sending it to someone else I will just lower the resolution under settings then change it back but that in itself is a pain in the ass. So like someone else said, Dropbox FTW!!!!!! Dropbox is awesome on so many levels, it has saved my ass countless of times. So yeah it works wonders. Also I was in the same situation, my family had a family reunion at disney world over the 4th of july weekend a few weeks ago and dropbox was the solution to all of our questions as far as being able to share videos.
