Hi

Can someone please help.

I've gone through the necessary guides that explain everything about installing a custom rom, but I'm completely lost.

My Desire HD has the following information:

Android Version 2.2.1

Build number 1.84.61.2

Software number 1.84.61.2

It is an Orange branded phone.

I'm very much so interested in running it using the Leedroid rom.

I understand that If I'm not able to fully follow the guides, then its probably a good idea to avoid attempting it.

I'd even be willing to send my phone off to someone who could do it for me :)

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Geoff

Hi Geoff!

I know what you mean, it is a little confusing, but it's not too hard a process!

When you say you've read the guides, etc. I guess you mean you've seen El Presidente's thread (http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html).

Looking at the info you have provided, you will need a goldcard (as you are Orange branded (which was the same as me)), before you can downgrade - this is actually the "difficult" part - once this is done, you then root the phone using some apps and some one click tools... which is relatively painless.

There are many of us on here that could help you and walk you through the process as you do it, but I would not advise sending your phone to anyone, as it's quite an expensive piece of tech to send off to someone. It's not that I wouldn't trust anyone but if, for example, I were to do this for you and if it went wrong, I'd feel really bad...

I rooted about 3-4 weeks before El Presidente and, although I was relatively new to it, I was able to give him support when he did it and now he has helped others and even written a post with all the links in.

Like I say - we're here to help... the best advice is to read, read and read again, so you know what the process involves and then go for it.

Let us know if you need support and we'll do our best!! :D

Thanks very much for your reply D.U.R.X.

It's very informative.

I managed to get the Goldcard done without a hitch, it's just the downgrading process I am struggling with :(.

Do you think sometime in the future someone will ever come up with an all-in-one app for both pc and phone to save me pulling what little hair I have left out? lol.

I rooted my old Desire without any probs at all. But this is a different kettle of fish.

Thanks again for your advice and help. I'll have another look at the weekend and report back.

Cheers

From what you've said, I think that you may be best going through the process while you are logged on here too and, if you come up against any issues, post immediately and someone will get back to you! :)

Hi

I've been fairly quiet in work so I thought I would do some more research.

I came across a video on Youtube, and after seeing that I am a lot more confident of downgrading my phone and everything else that is involved.

So the weekend cant come soon enough, so I will try tonight :)

btw, with the radio s-off tool, does the sim-unlock make the phone sim free?

Thanks again

Geoff

That's correct... go for the top option (from memory) - the one that is simonlock, supercid and maybe something else.

Won't be able to log on myself tonight, as my laptop is being repaired, but someone else will be able to help, I'm sure! :)

Well thats a bonus :)

I'll be able to use my giffgaff sim for unlimited internet and use the phone as a wifi hotspot :)

Once I've created the goldcard, what do I need to do then before I start the downgrade process?

I cant seem to work it out lol

Once you have the goldcard, you need to download the correct files to your computer. Make sure you have Sync (the drivers that came with the phone) and (not sure if this is and/or) SDK (android development tool that talks to the phone) and (I think) .net4 (or something like that).

Then it's just a case of following the steps and actually downgrading... if you are on 2.3, then you need to gingerbreak first, then downgrade :)

If you can picture this scenario for me please. I have created the image which is now safely on the GOLDCARD, do I then put that in the phone , along with the PD98img file and then carry on with the down grade?

adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell

I'm nearly there lol

That looks correct - I am in work though and am flicking back on to this every now and then (can't give it my full attention at the moment)... if you didn't upgrade to Gingerbread (2.3), then this would seem to be correct!

Don't worry if this doesn't work first time though... I went through the process quite a few times... it doesn't damage your phone, as it's like an OTA update!

Sorry, you're first post said you're running 2.2.1, but then you've said you're running 2.3.3 a few posts above this one. The above would be correct if you're still on Froyo. If you're on Gingerbread, the commands are -

Code:
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb push GingerBreak /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/GingerBreak
adb shell
./data/local/tmp/GingerBreak

You'll get a message on screen saying "Dance free my only one" and # should appear at the command prompt. You'll then need to type

cd /data/local/tmp
<Press Enter>
./misc_version -s 1.31.405.6
<Press Enter>

Thanks very much El Presidente

I copied the wrong text before. Oops.

I've just realised I wont be able to downgrade now because after the OTA upgrade, the software number is now 2.37.61.11 and according to the guide, it is not possible to downgrade from that version as of yet.

Oh well, I'll have to wait I suppose.

Thanks for your input guys :)

Sorry about that, hopefully they'll find a way to get the process working for your software soon.

Gutted mate! Keep your eye on here/XDA... I'm sure that, once it's possible to downgrade from the version you're on, it'll be ALL over here!:)

Hello fellas/gals

Ive successfully rooted my DHD :)

I am now running Android version 2.2 with software number 1.32.405.6

It is now also s-off and sim freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

I now want to install 'Leedroid', so if anyone can provide me with an idiot proof guide, I would appreciate it.

I'm sorry for asking, but the guides I have read so far, are a bit beyond me.

Thanks very much.

Hi Wiggo,

I know you've been pointed to El Presidente's thread a few times now... http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

Hahah.. and I'll do it again just because I found it so easy to follow!

Seems like you are up to the last 2 sections in that thread:

Installing ROM Manager & Clockwork

-Pretty simple to follow El-Presidente's instructions here

and

Installing your chosen ROM

If you are up to the 'installing your chose ROM' stage'. It is easy as:

0. Back up your current ROM: Go into the Rom Manager App on your phone, scroll down and press Backup Current ROM - follow the prompts.

1. download the Latest Leedroid ROM zip (and optional full wipe to ext4 patch zip) onto your computer, copy it/them onto your microsd card on your phone. Then disconnect your phone from the computer.

2. Now go into the ROM Manager app on your phone.

3. Press on 'Reboot into Recovery'. The phone will go to a black screen with orange writing with ClockworkMod Recovery at the top. Scroll down using your volume buttons to 'install zip from sdcard'. Use your power button to select. Now select 'choose zip from sdcard'.

4. If you downloaded and want to do the 'optional full wipe to ext4 patch' which was 'highly recommended'. Select that one first. Obviously, it will fully wipe and partition your phone. So make sure you've backuped your ROM as in point 0. above.

5. Once that is done, select 'choose zip from sdcard' and select the LeeDroid Zip.

6. Done.

After that, you may reboot the phone... that's it!

If there is anything else/something incorrect, I'm sure someone here will be able to correct me!

Hi ryu88

Thank you very much for your help.

I've installed it without a hiccup. I've even managed to flash some add-ons too :)

Just one more question though, I've made a back up of the previous rom onto a spare sd card and I've put another card in (It has all my music and so on). Will I be able to revert back to the sd card with the backup on at a later date? If needs be that is?

Thanks

Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem. I've a load of backups on a spare SD Card if needed too. :)

Should you ever start tweaking with your current rom (updating it or whatever), you ought to make a backup first as well. It will save you a lot of hassle at some point :p

So if I at any point decide to update the ROM or flash an add-on, you recommend I go through the process of backing it up first?

If that is the case, how do I go about re-installing it? I've noticed that the back up isn't a zipped file you see.

Thanks

Wiggo

Yeah, it's probably being overcautious, but it's best to backup every time you flash a theme/add on etc.

You can copy the backup folder that's created to your PC, but to restore, you need to put the entire folder into the \clockworkmod\backup on your SD Card. From within clockwork, there's an option to restore.
