i tried rooting my HTC EVO 4G (2.3.3) using unrevoked(mac) and it says that my firmware is too new.....this is my first attempt at rooting.....is there any way to downgrade to an earlier firmware or do i have to wait for a 2.3.3 root to come out??

HTC EVO 4G : Android Version 2.3.3 Baseband Version: 2.15.00.05.02 Kernel Version: 2.6.35.10-g4e39384 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1 Wed May 4 23:24:47 CST 2011 Build #: 4.22.651.2 CL60865 release-keys Software #: 4.22.651.2

There is currently no way to downgrade without having root access and the current hboot version(2.16) for the stock 2.3.3 rom is not rootable. Keep checking back here. You will know when they find an exploit for the new hboot and get us root access. Until then, be patient.

Hi. I'm new and am having the same issue as the original poster. I read everywhere that they have not unlocked the bootloader for 2.16 but I have 2.15... am I still unable to root or is there a way for me to downgrade to 2.2 so that i can root. I'm running 2.3.3 Android version and 2.15 baseband version. Thanks!

Edit: NEVERMIND!! i reread what the OP put.

Are you looking in Settings>About Phone>Software to get your baseband? If so, you need to power off your phone then hold volume down+power til the white bootloader screen comes up. Look in the upper left hand corner and it will give you your hboot number. Likely with 2.3.3 it is 2.16. The baseband is actually the radio version you currently have.

yeah sorry... I'm dumb. i posted then reread what OP put and realized that we are running the same specs. No root for me :(

I've been putting it off and now I just got an asus transformer so I want to be able to create wifi hotspots to connect my tablet with. Funny thing is I NEVER do the OTA update but for some reason decided to this time... In doing research I saw that this has been an issue for over a month so I'm hopinig theycrack it soon so I can get the most out of my phone/tablet combo

I've been wanting to ROOT my EVO as well but unfortunately just days before I decided to do the process myself I updated, unknowingly that it would interfere. It sucks, but as far as I have been reading, this forum has the best and most complete info so thanks to all you users who help out the little guys like me!!

I look forward to being able to root my phone and I'll be checking back here frequently to see when I'm able to. Good luck everyone!!

does anybody know when there will be a root out for the evo 2.3.3

not sure exactly when they will come out with a way to root 2.3.3. it has been a month or so, so hopefully soon. they usually like to keep these things under wraps just in case htc decides to push an ota that closes whatever they find. so once it is out, we will have a sticky and there will posts galore on rooting it. so just be patient and keep checking back to this forum.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have faith that they are close. it took about a month or so for the devs to crack the last froyo ota we had. so hopefully soon. just keep checking back here for it. we will create a sticky and such. also if you want to root, check out the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. it has a lot of info that you will need to when you are rooted. also read the rooting essential sticky as well.

Man I'm chomping at the bit for the new root. My replacement should be in today or tomorrow. I don't think I would mind stock GB as much if it at least had Sense 2.0. It's so boring on Sense 1.0. The things I miss the most are SBC charging, wifi/4g/volume toggles in the notification pulldown, and my custom font that I had gotten so used to. The battery life is actually better than I had remembered, so it could definitely be a lot worse. But I hate not having the freedom to do whatever I want to my device.Oh, and I forgot how much it stinks having all the bloat installed. Yuck.

Anybody come up with anything yet?

if you do not see any signs of rooting 2.3.3 then the answer is no. we will have a sticky and there will be plenty of threads and posts on the topic. believe me we are all anxious to gain root for 2.3.3. the devs are keeping things under wraps so we have no way oh knowing until they release it.

SO i suppose i should stay away from the new update my phone has, yesterday it said new update available for 2.3.3 gingerbread Fota or something, i said install later. will it matter since its still 2..3.3?

Thanks
mike

Are you currently rooted? If so, you can flash the rooted stock rom and the radios(if you choose to) to get you up to the latest software without losing root. There are also many roms out there that have Sense 2.1 and 3.0(both of which the Evo will llikely never get) that run very well on our phones.

I'm not currently rooted, I lost my rooted 2.2 and the replacement I received has GB. This morning my phone did the FOTA update to build 4.24 and I just went for it... hopefully this doesn't prevent me from getting rooted again once the devs figure out hboot 2.16?
