Help Samsung Galaxy S2 *does* work on Telus (repost)

I'm just posting this here because I noticed the Telus forum on this site doesn't get a whole lot of use, so it might get overlooked being posted just in that forum:
------------
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S2 today (ordered off eBay, shipped yesterday from Chicago overnighted via UPS).

Popped out my SIM and microSD card from my Motorola Droid.
Slid them both into the slots on my new Galaxy S2.
Turned on the power.

VIOLA! Absolutely no probs.

'Still have to go through the process of getting familiar with a fresh O/S of course, but that's nothing to do with the carrier. Actually it re-installed all my apps without me even noticing. I went into Market wondering if I had to re-download everything, and was happily shocked to see everything was already installed!

Anyway, to make a long post short - if you were wondering if the Samsung Galaxy S2 would work on Telus. Yes it does. Just take out your SIM/microSD from your last phone, and pop it into your Galaxy S2.

(I've tested already sending text and making voice calls).

'Hope this post puts some people at ease!

I'm getting mine tomorrow hopefully. How do you like it so far?I'm on Telus too :)

Awesome phone. I miss not having a physical keyboard. And some of my games crash on it (Robo Defense, Homerun Battle 3D). Hopefully app writers will be releasing updates that allow them to work with the S2.

Android 2.3 takes a bit of getting used to. I just upgraded to 2.2 only about 3-4 mths ago. Comes with a LOT more apps that I dont' necessarily need or want. Not sure if that's a Samsung thing or a 2.3 thing.

But the phone itself is a welcome upgrade from my old Droid.

AND THIN! Wow it's thin -- and *LIGHT*. My Droid feels like a brick in my hand compared to the S2.

From your other post, it seems it took the seller a week or more to ship from your purchase date?

I just ordered from the same seller.

Tell him i sent yah :)

Yah that store orders them in bulk from somewhere else. Even the eBay listing said it wouldn't be shipped until the following Wednesday (I ordered on a Saturday) but it actually took until the Monday after that to arrive and then ship out from their store in Chicago. They overnighted it ($81 shipping.. grr) but it got here the next afternoon. 'Phone is working great.

Good to hear it is working well for you. I hope I can avoid fast battery drain issues that others have experienced.

This will be my first android phone. I will use it with my spare Fido sim with unlimited data. My main phone is an old BB Bold that I use to tether to my Playbook, but I couldn't wait a year for BB to come out with a QNX dual core phone :)

Ordered mine from Expansys Canada. Tracking says I should get it tomorrow. 2 days from purchase is pretty good :)

Ordered just when they got stock. Phew :)

Hey! I ordered from expansys USA on the 25th as well and I am expecting my phone today before 12 pm. What's this battery drain issue I'm hearing about here? Otherwise I'm pretty stoked.

I just ordered one yesterday from expansys as well, I am on telus, looking forward to using this phone!

Regarding the battery drain issue, I believe there is a known bug with android 2.3.3 and all dual-core phones that cause battery drain by the OS. This will be fixed in 2.3.4 and a update should be coming soon.

Battery life improved for me with a firmware update. Lasts all day now. :)

I thought Telus was getting this phone mid July I was told by store from the manager. Samsung rep said only virgin and bell...WTF?? Anyone know?

Also how much are you paying for your unlocked s2's and where are you purchasing?

Thanks,

Nope, ONLY virgin and Bell are getting it. With all the companies, etc coming in to NA, compaines are going exclusive with phones to compete with others. SO ONLY Bell and Virgin will get this.

Getting mine either tomorrow or Monday. Looking forward to it. I'm also on Telus. Obviously with the 850 and 1900 3G capabilities, it will work on the network.
Fierce competition between carriers will create exclusivity 'wars'. This one is flagship for sure and will help draw clients no doubt.

anyone using videochat with the device? I know there's a skype patch available but besides skype, any other app that enables this feature? Qik? Fring? etc....

I have heard from a good source that telus is getting it. they would not miss out on this, if they do, they will lose a customer and I hope they are listening.

It's true, hard to believe that other carriers would not want to get in on the action so to speak. I wonder if however there is a period of exclusivity for a certain carrier. I hear that they could be 3 to 6 months at times, and then all other interested carriers could join in. Rogers would probably come in as well.

It outsold the iPhone 4 globally if you compare the first 3 days post launch. Impressive.
