Multi-Touch missing from iPhone, how to enable it.

because 3d party MT is not as good as native, silly. when will u people get it: 3D PARTY MT IS SECOND RATE! GET IT? SECOND RATE!

Oh, oh! Guess what?! I completely disagree with you, yet again! Quelle surprise!! Code is code. Unless you've got a complete moron writing it (and granted, there are a few of those in the market) the popular apps that support multi-touch/pinch-to-zoom do so well.

Who's to say Google would make anything better? A good developer is a good developer, whether or not they work for Google.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 4.0 software will feature BING as it's default browser and not Google, leading me to believe that Google told Apple they would no longer suppress multitouch in their OS and it pissed them off...

My guess? 3.0 = full multitouch.
I don't think that's the case. It's more like Google has now become a direct competitor with Apple after releasing the N1. Therefore Apple sure ain't going to line their pockets with cash by using their search engine.
If Google told Apple they were going to start using multitouch, it wouldn't be a case of pissing them off - Apple would just sue them......simples. Apple has the patent for this feature.

@markouk See that's where the confusion is though. Microsoft actually owns the technology for multitouch and can dress it in many ways. 90% of the iPhones gestures and interface are ripped off of surface before it was officially surface.

Technically, past Android developers and ex-Google employees have reported that Google made a deal with Apple not to include multitouch so as not to seem like such a threat to the iPhone, but a different OS entirely so as to attract a different user base.

We can see proof of this in multitouch phones overseas, and the Palm pre and pixi which not only do not have Apples blessings for multitouch, but Palm tried to sue them for not letting their devices sync with iTunes.

This is clearly a case of back scratching, and I think Google has weighed the benefits and the costs and has had to say....OK, We have to do this.

I would tend to think this is more accurate than the previous.

Im under the impression Apple intends to embark in the mobile ad business and wants its own search methods but "may" use Bing as a stop gap.

Google by every reliable account Ive heard has a gentlemans agreement not to enable MT in default apps

I do wonder JUST how aggressive or what type of agreements are going on.

YES...Google needs Iphones revenue. Thats alot of mobile clicks. Im sure Google would continue to hold off on MT if Apple still uses there search.
BUT
If Google goes MT...Apple goes Bing... Google can just stop support of Maps/GMail no ?

Seems like a cat mouse game that ends with same old shit.
Id be happy to be wrong , but Apple going Bing and Google enabling MT seems like a slim chance more than likelyhood for the next few months.

I agree with you. The important word here though is "default". It will still be easy to make Google your default search engine, and I'm sure that will be a lot of peoples first move.

I just think at some point Google had to say "OK, OK, we've played along enough... cut us a break"....and Apple replied "Sure, but...."

IDK. A lot of this is just speculation, but it makes sense to me, and I could see why it would happen. Kind of "Small" of Apple though if Google has held off this long just to try to get a good relationship with them and Apple is going to cry about it because over a year later it is the most discussed and wanted feature in their entire line of phones....with just some code keeping it from happening.

If you don't know what you're talking about don't even think about writing it down here... MULTI TOUCH DOES WORK!!! but not with Android OS! because of legal problems it might have. APPLICATIONS support multi touch just great.

And why the hell do you have to bring the iPhone into this discussion? Everybody knows what multi touch is without saying iPhone beside...
