Root what's the best ROM?

I have tried to install open soju and always get a fail error message. I can't figure out why my phone won't flash that ROM. Any ideas? I'm flashing like any other ROM and I have downloaded it three times. Also have the latest CWM.

I'll have to try it out bkuz I haven't tried flashing it myself I'm running CM7

found out that cm7 does support 4G. if it's available to you just turn it on in the settings menu

I just installed cm7 tonight. I'm liking it so far. LOTS of customizability. I used a stock rom that I found on xda for the first few hours after I rooted, but then I decided that I really wanted to see what cyanogen was all about.

you have a custom kernel? netarchy or mext1x are great. i also suggest the battery tweak. saves my a lot of juice

I'm currently running 2.6.35.7-59550-gf288739. Pretty sure that's stock. Not sure what the advantages to custom kernels are, but I'll look into it. Thanks, bnitty.

I saw something about the battery tweak a little while ago, and it sounded like this application that I have called Juice Defender. I'll look into it again to see if I should pick it up.

the custom kernels are pretty sweet. they allow you to OverClock your S4G. i tend to have mines at 1.2 or 1.4 ghz when i'm playing a game, but 800 any other time.

the batt tweak just slows your RAM down to conserve juice in certain situations. it does make a difference tho.

I'm planning on upgrading the kernel to netarchy tonight.

Do you think the battery tweak and Juice Defender would interfere with each other? I think that Juice Defender mainly just deals with turning on and off the radios when they're not needed.

EDIT: I flashed the netarchy CFS kernal, and since I did that a few hours ago (2 maybe) It's crashed and rebooted itself no less than 4 times. I'm going back to stock kernel.

EDIT 2: One more idea, since the link I had for the stock kernel was down. I'm going to try disabling any CPU in SetCPU or Juice Defender and see how it likes that.

netarchy worked well for me. I'm currently using Matr1x kernel. I have my CPU default at 800 Max & Min to conserve battery. if you go to the XDA site you'll see the different kernels

Yeah, that's the forum I was referencing. That's where I downloaded the netarchy kernel. I believe that I had my min set to like 200 MHz, my Max at 1400 MHz, then I was using the governor that would set the CPU to the lowest it could, conservative I think. It hasn't crashed since I stopped messing with the CPUs, but then again, I quit using my phone and jumped on the computer for a bit, so I have no idea if it's actually fixed or if it just hasn't had the chance to break again.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm going to the stock kernel. Netarchy keeps crashing on me. I like cyanogenmod, so I'm going to keep that, but it's at least SOMEWHAT important to me to have a phone that doesn't crash/freeze several times every day.

I, too, was using Net's kernel for a while. I've been using Matr1x kernel for a few versions now. Stock, it's overclocked at 1200mHz. Also have had MUCH fewer reboots not messing with that clockspeed. 1200 is plenty fast for now.. and the stability of 1300, 1400 and 1500 (version 4.5) really just depends if your device can handle it.

yeah i've been on Matr1x 4.5 myself. had a few issues with it on CM7 with it eating up my RAM & causing a reboot about once a day, but i'm trying out Miui now & it's running very well! no reboots yet & i've been using it since last night *knocks on wood*

How'd you get back to the stock kernel? I couldn't find one to flash and whenever I tried to do a restore one of my nandroid backups (one I made before I placed Netarchy's kernel on), the Netarchy kernel wouldn't be replaced.

And how's CM7 working for you? I keep hearing that people get reboots at least once a day.

have you tried Maxtr1x 5.5 kernel? it's a god send. i'f been on Matri1x for a while now. currently using the Miui ROM as well. way more stable then CM7

I just flashed CM7 yesterday, so I'll try out that Miui if I get tired of it. So far I've had zero problems and somehow this phone is even faster!

check out this thread for a great kernel guide. Choosing bfs or cfs depends on personal use and preference.. And in my experience, whichever you find works better on your device.
