Android become a PC touchscreen Monitor?

Okay first post bare with me.

What I want to do is use my Android phone as an external monitor that has touch control for my laptop.

I am not talking about "tethering" because that inherently means I want to use my Adroid phone as a 3g hotspot for my laptop...this is not the case.

I am not talking about "remote desktop protocol" because it also uses a network router or ad hoc connection.

Such programs like PDAnet and PhonemyPC are solutions, but all require an internet access and are more geared towards controlling your home PC from anywhere in the world. They require a third party server and do not work as a peer to peer mode.

I simply want to either use a usb cord, bluetooth, or ad hoc wifi to connect to my computer.

The idea is to have a it used in the Car connected to a car PC. Now I know there are touchscreen monitors out there that are relatively cheap, but that is the issue....they are cheap CHINESE POS...and they do not have a capacitive touchscreen and need a stylus to really use them.

There are touchscreen monitors out there such as this one:

But require two connections...one VGA cord and a USB cord for control. The size is an issue too. Nothing smaller than 7" is available. Also, that monitor become attractive to steal. I could just take my phone with me.
Ideally, I would like to not have any cables to connect, but at most a USB cord would be fine (possibly charge the phone simultaneously). The perfect situation is to be able to get into my car, mount my phone into my window car mount that I use, connect to PC.

Seeing PhonemyPC display and control a pc without any wires makes me think someone out there can or has done this before.

I believe there could be a market for this, especially for Car and Car audio enthusiests.

Can you just RDP into your PC from your phone? I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish.

Sorry, I originally, wrote "remote access" which it should have been "remote desktop protocol" (edited). Yes you can RDP. But like I wrote that requires a router or internet access. PhonemyPC does do this...but BOTH need internet access (Phone on either 3G or Wifi access point AND Computer on LAN/Wifi access point). And if you are driving on the highway at 60 mph in the middle of nowhere Kansas you do not have the internet.

What I am trying to accomplish:
Imagine desktop computer in your car....No monitor, right?....Plug in Droid via USB to desktop computer (ideally connect wirelessly).....now it's become your monitor....and wait....I can control the PC and run programs/watch movies/write a 5 page paper with Microsoft word???!!!!

Is that clearer?

I can't think of any way you could possibly connect to your home computer from the middle of no where Kansas with no Internet access available. I'm not sure what method you're hoping will work.

I have a similar situation. Where I would like to be able to plug my droid into a headless pc where remote access is turned off and be able to login and control the pc or server using my Android as a handy little crash cart for console access. This would be amazing especially in secure datacenters. If someone doesn't build this app, I will build one myself and share it w the world.

Sounds like you need a new phone .... Motorola dual-core Android phone to pull off laptop trick? ? reghardware ...

Do you mean something like ... connectbot - Project Hosting on Google Code ... ? Not used it myself but it gets good write-ups.

Put a wireless router in your trunk and then both the pc and android can join your LAN. There is no need for a WAN connection provided both your PC and phone are in range. Give your PC a static address on the LAN and program that static address into RDP on your phone. I use rpd light 3.3 on my phone and it works great and is free. You will need to be running one of the business versions of windows to have rdp work.

I'm sorry, is that a problem? I found this question searching for something else but had an answer. If the OP doesn't ever see it, so what, it will still be searchable and findable just like I found it and possibly valuable to someone.

I want to do this other way around meaning PC touch screen become android smartphone. I have AuX connections in my CAR touch screen panel and can view the screen from galaxy s i9000. But is there a way by which i can transmit the input from my touch screen Car panel to android phone?

ha! Both of these ideas are basically what I was looking to do and came across this thread. I want to get a small 7"ish USB touchscreen monitor that's permanently installed in my car. It would be used for both:

1. An interface for my android phone while I'm in the car. It would be nice to have for navigation, answering calls, etc.

2. A mini-PC in my car as a media computer. More for the fun of doing it than any real need, but the monitor would then be an interface for the PC too. Ideally I'd like to install some kind of android-like OS, I think windows would be awkward on a touchscreen that small.

The PC and phone could be plugged into a USB switcher, so I could toggle between the PC and phone as needed. The PC would be permanently attached to the monitor, then I'd have a 2nd port I can plug the phone into.
