Root Eviollet 1.4 vs 2.0

What's changed in 2.3.4 that means you have to use 2.0?

i dont know but 1.4 is not fully compatible with devnul, GV 2.5+ various other 2.3.4 based roms
something changed where if you flashed it, it would boot but usb mass storage does not work and issues with wifi.

hadron, im sure you were on GV with me when it went to 2.5 and you had to get a test build off eviolette for it to work

Yeah, I think 2.5 was my last GV release, but I'm not sure I ever used ManU 1.4 with it - I was using the SVS "test kernel" (the one with the missing 245 MHz frequency) from GV 2.3, and I'm not certain whether I actually went back to 1.4 before 2.0 came out.

It does ring bells, but I don't think I encountered it myself.

hmm you mentioned it to me as it fixed issues with 2.3.4 :/ im certain it was you

problem is we post so much well never find it lol

OK, out of curiosity I tried flashing ManU 1.4 HAVS-AXI-CFS onto my stripped-down CM7.1 RC1 (2.3.4), and while I've not been able to test GPS, everything else seems to be working (I've copied files via USB, maintained WiFi and 3G connections).

Of course GV2.5 was based on a much earlier CM7 commit than RC1, so it may be that the problem was something that's changed inbetween.

Assuming you are using a GB ROM (as you are using 2) the options are much the same as v2 - HAVS if your phone will take it, certainly AXI, and I think 1.4 was cfs only (no bfs).

how can i check whether the my desire ill take it? its a gsm desire running redux at the mo.

2.6.35.8 ManU-Version 1.4
Froyo-HAVS-CFS ---------------- Gingerbread-HAVS-CFS ----------------
Froyo-SVS-CFS ---------------- Gingerbread-SVS-CFS ----------------
Froyo-HAVS-AXI-CFS ---------------- Gingerbread-HAVS-AXI-CFS ----------------
Froyo-SVS-AXI-CFS ---------------- Gingerbread-SVS-AXI-CFS ----------------
these are the links on the xda site. which one of these should i go for do you think?

thanks

hmm there was deffo issues though, eviollette was making posts in gv thread about it too.
Yeah, it's familiar now you mention it. Edit: checked GV thread, and it seems the problem hit in GV 2.2, so the test kernel probably was a response to that, just the problem occurred a little earlier.

Anyway, used 1.4 all day today & all seems fine, so looks like whatever the problem was was fixed in CM at some point.

Have you used HAVS before? The only way to tell us to try - if it's stable you are ok.

As for which kernel, Froyo vs GB is obvious (Redux is GB). Try HAVS first. You want one with AXI.

just flashed 1.4 and cant believe the difference. seems a LOT faster and smoother. first real difference ive noticed since i started all this flashing roms business :)

now if i could only get it to double my battery life :)

Really? I'm running manu 2.0 havs axi BFS on Redux and never had any problems. I wouldn't imagine a kernel to make such a massive difference in performance

well, i dont really understand kernels etc, so all i can say is what im seeing as a noob :)
id say prior to the flash scrolling was 'blocky' or intermittent, and the phone was probably working slower than at any time, altho not slow enough to cause any real headache. it was only the fact that after flashing and using the phone i felt an instant speed come back to it that i noticed how sluggish it was before.
not really understanding all this technology and roms/kernels etc, ive felt a little underwhelmed by any changes ive made so far. i like the sense interface probably more than 'stripped down' roms, and would be happy with my phone in its original state, i just have a rubbish battery and went down this route to try and improve it. which i havent been able to do yet :-/ so this is the only time ive actually thought ive seen a marked difference in performance.
like i say, i dont understand kernels, so i cant say why or whats actually changed, just that my phones faster and smoother now :)

cheers
