Root Rooted phone, and now it freezes.. PLEASE HELP..

Hello all, I just got a Prevail a week or so ago. I am brand new to the smart phone scene, but after many a suggestion to root it, I figured the process of that out.

I have a problem now though. At least a couple of times a day the phone will start to severely lag! It's very unresponsive, apps won't open or load, and when I try to lock or unlock the screen, instead of the contrast going dark or lighting up smoothly, it does it in stages, like 10% brighter, stay still, 10% brighter, stay still, 10% brighter, stay still etc.. The only solution is to pull the battery out of the phone, because the lock/power button doesn't work properly. I don't think I did the root improperly, but that's a high possibility since it was my first time. How can I get my phone fixed!?

Help would be much appreciated!

Had this experience with mine. I use app that closes unwanted programs and services. Made it a little better. Currently mine is stuck at the boost mobile screen. Tried rebooting. No luck....

What app do you have that closes unwanted services? Also, do you know of a way to make it so if I exit out of an app, it actually CLOSES the app, instead of just minimizing it?

You probably already know this, but here goes. If you hit the back key until it returns to the launcher screen, normally that will close the app. If you hit the home key to return to the launcher, the app continues to run.

There is a lot of discussion and contention regarding app killers and whether they are necessary, you can read the threads on this. But, Android is designed to police itself so that you should rarely have to worry about closing apps.

I actually wasn't aware that using the Back key will close the app.. Good to know.

In theory, because of Android design you really do not want your memory to be empty. It is actually good for it to be loaded with apps if you are constantly switching between them instead of having to use cycles and therefore juice to reload them every time you switch to them. It is processing cycles that are important if your phone is lagging. Use a program like Watchdog to identify apps that are hogging the system. Run it until you get it figured out and then quit running it too.n

A lot depends upon the mix of apps you have running and how well written and well behaved each app is and what processing resources it requires and how often.

I just use Facebook, Gmail, and the default web browser, then Angry Birds once in a while. Titanium Backup is also running. It still freezes several times a day.
