Clarification regarding Gingerbread upgrade for Xperia X10

July 27th, 2011 Hi,
As some of you have seen we have communicated on Sony Ericsson - Sony Ericsson that the Gingerbread software update for Xperia X10 is available. Unfortunately that information was a bit too premature. The launch is imminent and timing according to plan but we just need some more days before we can push the button. Please stay tuned here on the product blog where we will notify you as soon as the first software kits start to roll out.
Also, please note that there is a lot of false commenting and posts impersonating Rikard Skogberg. Please respect the guidelines so that we can continue to have an open spirit and direct dialogue on this forum.
Any new information regarding Sony Ericsson software updates will always be communicated as a blog post, not in the comments field.
We will shortly introduce to you the two new bloggers that will carry Rikard

This is only for "Generic Firmware" right? How do I know if mines Generic? I can put other operators sim cards in my phone, will i get 2.3?

Once the generic 2.3 comes out, then cell providers will receive it, and some of them will release it immediately, others won't.....they will test it first, before releasing it to their customers.....or not at all.

If you paid over $200 for your phone and didn't buy it through your cell provider, it might be generic.

Check your version under Settings->About phone....if it doesn't say generic in there, then you probably aren't.

If you have a bootlogo when you start your phone from your cell provider...(not just the Sony Ericsson logo) then you don't have generic.

Em, it says Build 2.1.A.0435 and model X10i, Kernel 2.6.29, firmware version Eclair bitsnacker 2.6, i think that is from the theme i've installed. Does anyone know if o2 UK will get it?

thanks!

There are rumors it will be released on Friday in Europe (but this is probably for the generic) It is done by using the SI numbers. So any SI/EMI numbers that were sold and listed as generic will get the update.

If you originally got the phone and it was O2 branded, it won't get it.....doesn't matter what it has now. In Sony's database your phone is either listed as an O2 phone or as a generic phone.

Did you have to wait to get the last update before you flashed? Did you flash to update to 2.1 when it came out....or did you get the O2 version?

Here are the 2 pages you can keep an eye on to see when the update is released.

And last time they listed the SI numbers as they updated.

Xperia X10 | Product Launch Blog

XPERIA X10 General - xda-developers

They will probably start listing the new numbers as soon as they start updating those generic.

it will look like this - Update Roll-Out Started Also for Xperia X8 | Product Launch Blog

If you see your number, you should be good to update...(those are all old one's, that is just an example)

Most likely you will need to do like the rest of us and update firmware and flash ROM manually using a flashtool.

People who have the legit generic, will just have to use SEUS or PC Companion.

I think if you run PC Companion or SEUS it will tell you what you have....but I am not sure. I only use Windows when I have to use SEUS, so, I can't check.

Just relax and wait, within hours there will be dozens of posts and instructions on how to update....and custom roms made with the new version, within several hours to a day.

Then there is usually a small update within a week after the release to fix stuff they forget about...like daylight savings or some weird app crashing or something like that.

Oh man! You get me excited! (not a gay way )lol, been waiting ages for this! I nearly went to get the arc before they said they are rolling this update out! I updated 2.1 through seus when it came out for o2,
When i got the phone i didn't do anything to it and i could put other sim cards in, so i hope that means it's generic? , i only rooted and installed a theme on it, i'm still using the stock 2.1 rom too.
:D:D:D:D: can't wait

oh yeah, i've been on XDA and they said install this this and this if you're rooted to backup your phone, but I want to stay stock on 2.3 if it's fast and doesn't require rooting, so will mybackuppro work with 2.3?
So i can backup sms and contacts? well, sms/mms most important because i can backup contacts with google sync. :D

Announcement just made on SE Product Blog Good news for Friday | Product Launch Blog

Good news for Friday
Hi,

We are pleased to confirm that the roll out of the software scripts for the Gingerbread upgrade for Xperia X10 has started as of today. The specifications of the upgrade can be found in the post that Rikard posted back in June. With regards to the roll-out plan, as stated earlier, this upgrade will first and foremost be made available to generic trade kits. Even if there will be some operator kits getting this upgrade – some of you will not be able to upgrade your customized version of XperiaTM X10. The roll out is phased (we have currently issued around 10% of the scripts) and they will all be made available over the next week. You will get a notification in your phone (if your kit is subject to the update) when the software upgrade is available. The software ugrade can only be installed using a computer and PC Companion software.
Regards
Mattias

Folks at XDA are installing it hot and heavy. I'm intending to wait until there is a rooting method so I can use my backup and all my other toys...but it's getting tough not to want to flash it and see :)

Smoked,

I'm gonna give it a try later tonight with this one posted on XDA
How to update to 2.3.3 gingerbread! In here - xda-developers

Some with x10a have said it has worked for them.

Cause if we have to wait for Rogers to release a version, I'll be very very very surprised if they do considering they are pushing the arc/play and a whole new whackload of devices running 2.3 like HTC Evo 3D, etc..

But I know what you mean about waiting for the software to be rooted. LOL
