This is my first android phone and I've only had it for a week. I already rooted it. I am interested in the ShabbyMod.9.

The ShabbyMod thread says to wipe the phone. How is this done? Will I lose all the apps I have uploaded? Should I just save them to the SD card? What about contacts?

Are the instruction for flashing the phone in the ShabbyMod file? Will I need to root the phone again or will the ShabbyMod build already be rooted?

First off all good questions there :)

Once you've rooted your phone you're rooted for good. The only exception is if you choose to unroot it which is done almost the same way as you did for one click root.

Wipe/Wiping(Factory Reset) is basically clearing out data on the phone. This does NOT mean apps will be deleted, just their data. For example the system app Contacts has all your phone numbers and addresses stored for that app. When you wipe your phone you will delete all those numbers and addresses but not the Contact app itself.

There are two ways to wipe a phone that I know of. You can go to menu settings > Privacy > choose Factory data reset. The second way is from the Recovery Mode Menu when you boot up the phone. Oh I lied about only 2 ways, you can also throw it at the wall until it explodes into pieces or flush it down the toliet, physical wipe is optional :p I'm so nasty...

Don't fret though about losing contacts! If you have a registered Google account and have linked it to your phone, then ALL of your contacts and it's data will be sync and stored on your Google account online. When you come back from wiping you can re-link your account and then sync your phone again with Google and your contacts should be back on your phone. Keyword is SYNC. So make sure you SYNC contacts to Google before wiping.

Yes. there should be a READ ME file in the ShabbyMod zip at least 0.9 Flashing ShabbyMod is the same way like flashing One Click Root. You can not flash ShabbyMod first without having a rooted phone. In fact you can't do anything before you root. So root first then flash mods.

Allow me to make one correction here. You won't lose any SYSTEM apps. Aka preloaded apps. Anything that you have downloaded WILL be wiped. You can get titanium backup and backup all your apps to sd then install titanium again after write and quickly recover all the backed up apps and their data.

The reason factory wipe removes downloaded apps is, imagine you download an app that causes a problem with the phone such as a bootloop or for whatever reason your laureen to be unresponsive. You can't get into the phone to fix out so you need to be able to fix it another way. That's where a factory reset comes in.

One last question. Will wiping my phone do anything to the SD card? I want to make sure I don't erase everything.

Does this sound right:
1. backup everything
2. take the SD card out
3. then do the wipe
4. connect phone to PC and run ShabbyMod 0.9
5. download Titanium Backup
6. insert SD card
7. install apps that I want from SD card.

No need to remove the sd card, the data wipe will not touch the sd card.
Are you just installing shabbymod .9?
If so then yes remove the sd card to do the actual mod flashing. after it is back on you will be able to put the sd card back in, and shabbymod .9 includes the free version of titanium Backup. IF you have the pro version you may need to download it otherwise its going to be on the phone when your done flashing it.

I don't know about the cache, but i'm fairly certian there's an app to backup bookmarks. Try searching "bookmarks2sd" i believe that's the name. I'm too lazy to search the market myself right now.

You can restore search history with your google account, idk if it is what you want though

Close . It's " Bookmarks to SD " . :p
