okay iv had the sprint HTC hero since day 1 and at 1st the text message deleting problem did not bother me. im talking about how i CANT delete messages in my messanger. not in any sort of SMS app. handcent. chomp nor messanger. its getting out of hand cause my phone is going soooo freakin slow now. i have threads with tons of texts. my girl and i just hit 5,000 texts and everytime i get a text and her name is at the top of the page it takes like 4 mintues just to look at a text. others have well over 500-1000 and its getting so annoying to a point where i just wanna get rid of the phone.

I WANT TO DELETE MY INBOX TEXTS !!!!! AHHHH!!!!

Go into messages.

Hold your finger down on the conversation you want to delete.

A box will appear press delete and all messages from that conversation will be deleted.

Or if you want to delete multiple at once. Go into messages. Press menu then delete then you can check box multiple threads at once then ok to delete.

Hope this helps.....

no it does not help. every time i do this it just doesnt do anything and frezes my hero to a point where i have to turn the phone off and turn it back on.

Leave it, dont turn it off when it freezes, I had the same problem with my phone but with only 350 texts, the first time it froze i took out the battery, second time i just left it and it worked ok, leave it for ten minutes or so you got nothing to lose!

There is an app, SMS quick delete I think.

It works well.

Please note you will not see any progress in terms of % deleted or anything due to the high volume of texts. The app will freeze alot but just let it do its thing and don't mess with your phone while it does it.

I deleted 3000 texts this way.

i dont understand why you guys wait so long to delete your text threads? when i see around 100 or maybe 200 at the most in a thread i will remove it to start fresh. i dont know if this is just habit coming from blackberry where i would get a noticeable slowdown with large threads so i often cleared them out.

just seems like waiting to into the 1000+ mark is a bit excessive? do you really scroll back 1000 messages to see what was said way back then? lol

Generally I use SMS Popup to quickly reply to texts, I am rarely in the Messages app so don't really keep track.

I'm experiencing this problem if I have 100 messages or 1000 messages. I also came from using a Blackberry and when you deleted messages on it, it was instantly which is how I would assume any phone would be.

Hi,

Is there a way...
to set limits on text conversations?

example:
set to 100 in each contact
so that the phone automatically only keeps 100 text per conversation

????
Thanks

I was wondering if there was an "auto-delete" function as well. My Motorola Slvr used to automatically deleted texts after a week or so, but of course it only took about 100 for its internal memory to become full :p
