I'm considering Netflix but wanted to know from you folks if the service is worth it? I know alot of people stream this to their phones/tablets/pc/consoles so that is a one positive thing. I'm going to be using the service more for streaming probably.

How is the movie selection?
Do you have lag issues when streaming?

I currently have movie channels with DirecTV but will most likely be cancelling those channels shortly to save some bucks. Just trying to cut corners where I can. Debating on getting the Netflix service. I've read some good and bad reviews but wanted to get the android communities feedback.

Thanks in advance everyone!! :)

I used to have the 1-DVD plan but I downgraded to the Instant only since it was all I was watching. You get a decent selection of content. It's mostly for those that love watching tv shows. You get some good movies (mostly indie) but the tv shows is where it's at.

I'd agree with NYC. Most of the movies are old or B rated newer ones. But you can watch a TV series from episode 1 to 101.

I love the streaming service and there is a decent selection of movies and tv shows for streaming, you have to wait a little longer to stream them than DVD, but overall the service is great. The picture quality is actually a lot better than I would have expected on 3G. I stream on both my Nexus S and my ipad2.

It's worth it to stream, especially the TV shows. I think the movie selection is improving. It's really worth the money when you consider how much a series run of 1 series would cost on DVD.

My only bitch is licensing tends to run out on Thursday or Friday, so there is the chance that once something has been available for a while it will go away at a terrible time. They had to pull Dexter and Babylon 5 right before a 3 day weekend, that sucked. I did pitch a large enough hissie fit that they are looking into adding when a shows time will end in streaming. Most of time things come back pretty quickly and they almost always add a similar show to trya nd fill the void of the one that left.

Yea the movie selection sucks ass on Instant but you get some decent TV shows.

I had the instant and bumped up to 1 DVD out because it was only $2 more and I could actually rent recent movies.

You cant even stream old classics like "Gladiator".

I do the same thing, the extra $2 is definitely worth it for DVDs through the mail

I'm on NetFlix's 1 month trial. Quality set to max streaming on a 50Mb/s connection is buffer-free. I type in a lot of shows manually, such as Tron or Star Trek, even the old movies show as N/A. Is that because of the trial period or normal?
No Tron, but I have access to every Star Trek series EXCEPT DS:9. No movies stream either.

I forgot, you can stream the reboot, but that's not REALLY Star Trek.

Here's my take as a Canadian Netflix user. If you are looking for that favourite movie or TV show, there is a chance you will be disappointed. As mentioned above if you are looking for new blockbusters, well there is a very good chance you will be disappointed.

On the other hand however if you are the type who is willing to browse though the selection and find shows/movies that may be of interest to you, and are willing to watch what is available, then Netflix will work out just fine for you.

Personally I don't watch cable TV, I just fire up Netflix and see "Whats On".

Just an FYI to all Netflix users:

Netflix issues press released on previously announced changes to rental plans

•Netflix announces it is separating its unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD plans in the U.S. to better reflect the costs of each and to give members a choice: a streaming-only plan, a DVD-only plan or the option to subscribe to both.

•DVD rental plans: New plans include an unlimited DVD-Only Plan at $7.99 for 1 DVD out at a time and $11.99 for 2 DVDs out at a time plan.

•Streaming plans: Unlimited streaming remains $7.99

•With this change, Netflix will no longer be offering unlimited plans that include both streaming and DVDs by mail.

•The price for getting both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be $15.98 a month

•For new Netflix members, the changes will be effective immediately. For existing members, the new pricing will start for charges on or after 1-September.

•StreetAccount notes TheStreet.com announced on 11-Jul that Netflix had unveiled a $7.99 DVD-only rental plan.

I have netflix and I stream to my ps3 and xbox360 (my epic 4g doesnt have android 2.3 yet so cant stream from phone), but it streams better on the ps3 in my opion there isnt a lot of lag on xbox but more so then ps3, and computer does rather well all the time as well, and the movie selection there are a ton of movies and tv shows and a lot of movies I have never heard of or seen before the only thing I wish is that they had a lot more newer releases quicker.

Going have to disagree with you here, Seth. Both consoles display Netflix the same. There literally is no difference in terms of latency. As far as having it on your Epic, it's not about having Gingerbread - it's about Netflix writing good code and enabling your phone to stream their content. My OG EVO had Netflix on Froyo and it ran smoothly.

I knew 9.99 for dvd + streaming was too good to be true!

Oh well, I guess I'll have to decide which one I want. I'm not paying more than $10 for a movie service when I have HBO, Cinemax (great porn), Showtime, and virtually every Cable channel except for sport packages n stuff..

Hmm. I guess Streaming + going to redbox for DVDs might work.. But Redbox has a very limited selection.

But having the DVDs would be really nice because I prefer renting and watching on my mini home theater system than going to the theater.

I think I'll just do the 1 DVD out for 7.99 and skip out on the streaming since I already have On Demand and a zillion channels.

I would just rent from Movies On Demand (Cable) but they are 4.99 each for 24 hours.. BARF! FART.

If I confused you, there are two on demands - one has a ton of free stuff and the Movies on Demand is the pay-for and has all of the recent movies

Streaming + Redbox wouldn't be so bad of an idea if you didn't have to return the movie rented within 24 hrs. I'm sticking with my streaming only.

Until Netflix gets a better streaming library... I'm going to wait to reactivate my account. Sony pulled out for now and lost quite a few movies that I enjoyed. Right now I just can't find anything to watch that I haven't already seen. I'll just stick with my Hulu Plus for now.

I'm doing the same thing, i hardly use it anymore. And now that Netflix is raising the price up to $15.99 for 1 dvd and unlimited streaming it's just not worth it to me. Once they get more movies and TV shows for streaming i think i will come back.

well im going to have to disagree, ps3 runs better on my wifi internet at my home then my xbox does and I have both ps3 slim and the newer slim xbox 360 both running off of the wifi in my home and playstation runs a lot smoother and doesnt stop and load hardly at all when my xbox stops not a lot to make me mad, but it does stop and load a lot more the ps3, and about the epic I cant play netflix on it untill the gb update pushes because its not on market unless i wanted to root which at the moment i do not

for netflix....
i dont like how the xbox menu is laid out... ps3 is so more organized and easy.

I also agree with you here, the ps3 menu is much easier to get around and even just type in the search menu in my opion, dont get me wrong I wouldnt buy a ps3 just because netflix is better or anything because xbox's netflix runs just fine, there are just a few things that xbox could improve that ps3 kinda already fixed

That's poor Netflix coding for the xbox version. That's not an xbox problem. There is a difference. As I stated previously, root will not change that. If Netflix doesn't have the app available on the Market, it's not available for your phone. Gingerbread is not a requirement to run Netflix.
