[Official Discussion] Huawei Ascend 2.1 - 2.2 Firmware Upgrade (Info updated as received!)

I know this may seem a bit nitpicky but since the update a few things went wrong.

Video Support:
No longer works period. YouTube.com nor YouTube for android can render video. On top of that Skyfire also no longer plays videos. And I used skyfire 4.0 before update so it isn't the app itself.

Tethering:
Speeds are not slow for metro but slow period and way more random.

Network connectivity:
There are times when I completely lose internet and data services. When this happened I borrowed a friend's ascend which wasn't updated yet everything worked fine.

So my question is this, can I use Icarus instead of the metro android 2.2.2 update? And will it have the same effect. Cause I miss watching anime while trying to go to sleep.

Yes. You can use Icarus, or cm6 or cm7... you'll need to use gingerbreak to root your phone, z4root wont work on 2.2.

You have to root your phone, using gingerbreak, if you plan on staying with 2.2.2. But as far as video hang ups, I would suggest you look at a virus scan. I use AVG for day to day things. I personally have never had a viral infection on my phone, but have heard it happens. I am also using 2.2.2, and have all of those things working. I would try a different browser, including the opera mini browser. You can get it via the market place.

I have the stock on my ascend. I'm thinking about updating my ascend from 2.1 to 2.2 from the metroapp stores thru wifi. I just have a few questions before I do this.

1. should i expect any problems with the update?

2. They say to back my files up because everything will be erased, will I lose my wifi connection and have to set it back up? On my wifi I have to open the ports up before I can connect.

3. what's the difference between the 2.1 and 2.2?

I don't think they will either. Especially since they just released the Ascend 2. They probably want everyone to go out and buy that if you want new firmware.

Load of shit, honestly, and CM7 keeps having issues with the time falling behind when my phone sleeps ( It'll just jump to whatever time it is a lot of the time after I wake the phone and then I'll get all my notifications/alarms at once after it figures out what time it is... And no suggestions please I've been through the ringer on other forums trying to figure out what the deal is and never have ) so I'm just going to sweat 2.1 until Christmas and get a new phone with Cricket then. Hopefully they'll have a solid deal on a new phone at that time. It seems like they do every now and then, IE you can get the LG Optimus C now for a hundred bucks off online.

Just follow the steps in there step by step, exactly, and you will have no issues.

You should be trying to boot into recovery with Clockworkmod and then using that to flash and install CM7.

In ADW Settings, turn on System Persistent. That should fix your problem. Also, it seems to help if you leave the clock open when charging.

hey if your phone starts just go into programs and start clockwork mod and choice boot into recovery and your phone will restart and go into recovery without you having to do any of that awkward stuff with your hands trying to hold down this and that while pushing on that.

Actually ADW is the default launcher in CM7 Isaac always opted for the stock android launcher tho.

Ive had the camera error before on this phone and i simply turned it off and on and it would go away but this time i have turned it on and off at least a thousand times and it will not go away! i dont know how to get to my camera
Do you think i should go to the Metro Pcs store?
My phone is updated to the 2.2 software and it worked with it before but this just happened out of nowhere this weekend when i was camping!
And i have not installed anything new so its not caused by any app like that so what could it be?

My phone is not so terrible, I just lost the ability to use ringtones and access various settings.
My gf's phone is now set at 4 hours off and there is no way to change it because the settings are all greyed out.

its not so bad once ya tweak it n clean it out a bit, but it runs circles around stock 2.1 any day.

if you want to change the time on a stock phone you need to put the phone in airplane mode first btw with the stock version of android weather it be 2.1 or 2.2.2 you could never adjust the time manually you always had to put the phone in airplane mode to do that and as soon as you took the phone off airplane mode it would go back to adjusting the time automatically. you should really consider installing CM6 or 7 on your phones
