Speed Things Up A Little?

Hey guys, so my mom got this phone, and while I haven't really played around with it much, she says that its just too "slow". As in, she will pull up a menu or something, and it just hangs and takes a bit to do anything.
She wants to go back to a dump phone because of this. Its just not a "snappy" experience overall for her.

Anyway, would installing a custom ROM or something of the sort speed things up? Any ideas/recommendations would be accepted here. Thanks

If she just got it, she should not be having issues wherein System Data needs to be reclaimed as it should have been preloaded with Android 2.2 OS (through a Samsung Transform Hard Reset) though you should download an app like DiskUsage (Ivan Volosyuk) to check out her internal storage (app storage) allocation. Try to keep 30% of internal storage free (65+ MB free/217 MB) and about 20 MB of RAM free (125-140 MB used/161 MB). Also, is she using a lot of Sprint ID packages? I would recommend using the default "Clean ID" or maybe just the "Sprint ID" package at most. Disabling "Animations" in Menu->Settings->Display->Animation, "No animations" is advisable.

Also, make sure she understands the difference between the <Back> key (proper way to close/exit apps; may need to click several times) versus the <Home> key which makes use of Android multitasking capability but keeps apps running or in the background which may use up RAM or battery life. At the end, always remember to <Back> out of running apps or those placed in the background. Finally, remember to clear out the browser cache, history, cookie data, form data caches every few days if not once a day.

What sparky said isn't going to help much. Root your phone using my guide, then install a custom ROM such as Ubuntdroid. It will help infinitely. And you can always contact me with support questions.

Thanks guys. I'm going to try the non-root things first, see how that goes.
Its funny, I asked her the last time she restarted the phone, and she couldnt remember when. So rebooting it helped a lot she said.

Also, I've never heard of Ubuntdroid, is that a good/well-working one? The first ROM that comes to mind is Cyanogen. But if Ubuntdroid is better, I will check it out

Ubuntdroid is equal to or better than Cyanogen. Cyanogen did not make a ROM for our phones.
