Droid vs Motoroi

Well, my wife was just about to whip out the checkbook and grab a Droid for my birthday, but we both stopped dead in our tracks a few days back when we saw a new Motorola creation peek over the horizon...

I know that new phones are always going to be popping up and I gotta jump in sometime, but this is just around the corner, and most sites are saying that it's coming to TMobile.

With you guys experience in specs and phone performance, can I ask your recommendation?

If the Droid and Motoroi were both in front of you today, knowing what you know now, which would you pick?

Here's a link to Motoroi spec sheet. Any input you have regarding Verizon/Tmobile would mean the world to us as well.

I currently have an original Motorola Razr with ATT, so either phone is going to be a big techno-shock for me.

Thanks!!!!!!!

How long until we hear the term "Droidkiller"?
Not a bad thing... just a sign that the Droid is a gamechanger, made an impact on the phoneworld, and is the new standard in it's particular field.

Will that happen?

I still like the Inbrics you asked about before: The Inbrics M1 is a thin Android handset with QWERTY keyboard (Phone Arena News)

But that still seems to be up in the air. Motoroi is just around the corner. I really like my Droid, but I guess if I had a choice, I would try the Motoroi just for the HD recording alone. It's something I would use a lot at work. The Droid's video cam works fine, but again, IF I had a choice...
I've no experience with TMobile, so I can't comment on the service comparisons.

BTW, cool avatar :p

These do look nice, but I'm definitely staying with the Droid. It's pretty future-proofed, it's priced fairly, and I see no reason to wait it out for these new things. Android phones to me are like netbooks: they're all great, but once you get down to the nitty-gritty, they're mostly the same, with a few different processors being the only appreciable difference.

Now if an ~4.3" (or larger! I wouldn't mind) Android device hits the market, I may reconsider!

I would honestly probably rather have the Motoroi. I really do not like the physical keyboard on the Droid and could honestly do without. Now if the Droid actually had a good keyboard on it like the Voyager that would be another story.

I am not diggin the big bump on the side, but not a deal breaker. If it was on verizon...then yea.

Didn't anyone hear about the Supersonic? 1.3(or 1)ghz Snapdragon, 4.3 screen, 2.1 with Sense, and WiMax. So it goes without saying that it is for Sprint, which is fine with me since they have the same coverage here as Verizon.

Yeah, and that is where smart phones need to get to really get my attention. That 4.3" screen is where I want my ideal phone to be. External keyboard or not, I really don't care. Get the voice dial, e-mail and synch issues fixed up, let it aoutrotate from both sides, give it a GOOD camera, and a high sensitivity GPS receiver that works with Google Earth, and with that processor, I would be just about set. That one I'd keep for two years. I have also come to conclude that all of that in one package is several years off. Get us where we want one tiny step at a time, leave us forever wanting just a bit more. That sells phones.

I'd prefer a Motorola build, as I think they make the most solid phones. But the Motoroi will not likely replace the Droid, with a bigger screen, maybe, but not yet. Verizon works best where I am.

The Motoroi looks like the hottest new gadget out there. I will have to find a way to scrap my Droid when Verizon gets this. HDMI output will be awesome!

I dont like the Droid physical keyboard anyway.

Check out the Korea pages at Motorola.com. Motoroi/xt720 is the headliner.

Hate the Droid hardware keyboard. Would get the Motoroi in a second if it was offered on Verizon. But, since I don't ever like sitting around waiting, speculating, and guessing when a new phone is coming out, I'm perfectly happy using the Droid. Indeed, it's been the best phone I've yet used...despite that pathetic keyboard (prefer the onscreen a ton more...I know, my preference, maybe not yours).

But there's a bigger picture benefit here: Android OS is really coming along. Hardware manufacturers are RAPIDLY embracing it. I love what I'm seeing. An open platform. App makers that usually respond very quickly to issues. A much sleeker interface than the Blackberry. No fear of Apple's totalitarian control on the entire experience (I'm a big enough boy to make informed decisions on app downloads and usage on my own...and to uninstall them if they aren't any good). And the best part is that as new handsets (and tablets) on the horizon are released, switching to them is a BREEZE. I won't be stuck with some archaic relic of an OS like Blackberry anymore. Android OS development just seems so much more fluid.

So that's the beauty, a fluid OS and handset model that will allow for myriad consumer configurations to suit our preferences. We're in the early 1 year stages on this thing and the finish is already dramatically improved. It's the Nexus One or Motoroi that we may be dreaming about today, but I can't wait to see what lies down the road in a year also. I guess I should just budget a new phone a year, eh? ;-)
