Rogers Dream 1.6 Update

I had absolutely no problems updating with Windows 7 on both the Deam and Magic.

I did not follow the instructions, just downloaded, installed and worked like a charm. Checked the instructions after reading this post, and they were very clear. Easy for the standard user.

Really? It failed for me and almost bricked my phone trying to update with Win7 64bit. I had to bust out my old comp and blow the dust off it to do the update.

Edit: After further reading of others comments it appears maybe I just needed to leave USB debugging on, as I did already have the (non-rogers/latest) Win7 supporting HTC Sync.

I'm back!!

If you are FIDO user with 1.6 custom ROM do not do any update!

- have your phone turned ON
- Call Fido
- tell them that you don't have data since yesterday
- they'll ask you what phone you have, say HTC Dream or Magic whatever you have
- They'll tell you that there has been some problems, blah blah blah
- tell them that you have applied the update but still no data
- they'll tell you to wait 24 hours
- tell them that you have heard that it could be done immediately if she only did the "Network Refresh"
- she will do it, it's easy for her.
- you will be asked to power down the phone and wait 10 seconds
- power on an there it is, firs Edge and than 3G.

Will it work tomorrow? Ask me tomorrow!

I've been trying to contact OOtP since my last post to no avail (busy signal).
Previously, I was speaking to someone in technical support. He told me that the free upgrade to Magic from Dream was suspended. Snack was apparently talking to a CSR who told him that it was simply "on hold".

Here we go with the runaround again!

Mary if you are still following this forum, please advise!

I've had the best success in contacting them via email. When I opened my original concern (the dream to magic swap) I completed the online form, someone got back to me the next day and anytime I've had a concern/question since have just emailed her back. Always dealt with the same person and with email there's a record of what's been committed.

Hey, just remembered something because of this whole 911 fiasco, which might open a can of worms.

Does anyone remember the iPhone SMS hack from last summer? It affected Android phones too but was fixed immediately by Google.

charlie miller sms hack android - Google Search

But like this 911 fix, do WE have this other fix? Was this fix rolled into the version 1.5 that we have??

Can't seem to find any info about the actual rollout of the fix.

I am downloading the update now. I will post a message about my experience once I get the update from Rogers (download is SLOW - WTF... Rogers can't build a server that can handle customer traffic? Going on 1 hour and still another hour to go!!)

I don't even know what else this update fixes... it may only be the 911 service (which I am not that concerned about). So why am I bothering with disrupting all the work I've done with configuration and what not?

BECAUSE Rogers disabled my DATA... I lost access to my wireless data plan just when it was very important to me for accessing my work email!
CLUELESS IDIOTS for not even bothering to inform me that this would happen!! I am so annoyed about this!!

Anyway, I will post a message when I am done with this nonsense.

I've noticed as well that when you've done the update ot the sense UI that VOICE DIALING has disappeared. Now the stock voice dialing sucked, but at least it allowed for safer dialing while driving... crap!!

See this thread for Rogers removal of voice dialing: http://androidforums.com/rogers/395...earch-now-missing-after-911bugfix-update.html

See this thread for a running total of all the bugs after the new update: http://androidforums.com/rogers/38974-rogers-911-sense-ui-update-post-your-problems-here.html

Hi All,

First off, thanks to everyone here for all the hard work in getting Rogers to not just notice, but to actually do something about support for Android. And thanks to @RogersMary for listening and caring about customer satisfaction. And for showing Rogers still cares about it's customers, at least a little bit ;) .

I called into Rogers today to find out where my Magic was, since I ordered it 2 weeks ago. I first spoke to a rep in sales, and I was promptly transferred to the Warehouse. There, I found out that the order I placed online for the HTC Magic was canceled. Just outright canceled. The rep couldn't see why it was canceled either. She transferred my to another rep that was able to tell me that the Dream to Magic program was put on hold, and that they did not know when it would be continued again. She said that they did not have the Magics in stock. I expressed how unhappy I was that I was not informed that my order was canceled and that I was not made aware of this. She said that Rogers underestimated the demand for this program, and is out of stock of Magics. She told me that I should call back in about a week to find out if they have the Magics in stock. I asked if there would be an announcement of some kind, such as on the Rogers website as to when they get more in stock. She said that she did not know (this is understandable though, with Rogers internal communication issues).

So in summary:
1. Dream to Magic offer is on hold.
2. Current unfilled orders have likely been canceled.

If you are waiting for a Magic, I heavily suggest you call and find out if your order has been canceled. The more people that call, the faster they'll get the phones out to us.

Hi,
With the latest update when I go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - I see an application for HTC Flash Player but it has a size of 0.00B. I have read recently that some people seem to be getting Flash on websites?
Does anyone have any insight into what this app is supposed to be and if it is supposed to potentially give some sort of Flash Player capability?
Having 0.00B right now probably means it isn't much use.
I have tried going to a couple of sights that have flash but it doesn't work.

yeah, it works... on 'some' webpages. Some of the fisher price games my kids play require keyboard input, so those don't work... but i like being able to go to a webpage, show the flash animation stuff and ask my iphone friends "do you have an app for that?"

What browser are you using and can you send an example of a website that works?

Thanks!

using the stock browser (notice that multi-touch also works)
and the fisher-price is one example - go to their games section
i haven't noticed any 'gaps' in pages... just trying to think of flash sites...
testing my site now [my interactive map doesn't work -- okay my embedded videos don't play - but i have it load a flash player]

try: Open Screen Project - HTC Hero: 1st Flash on Android smartphone | Adobe TV

Interesting. I was able to go to the Fisher-Price site and get the flash to work for one of the games there using the stock browser. Popped over to the same site using the Dolphin Browser and it was requesting to install Adobe Flash Player for the same game.
Followed the link and tried the same site (Yahoo Movies) that is demonstrated but it wouldn't play the trailer for a movie. Guess the Flash Player in the HTC Hero demonstrated is different than the one we have...
Guess it is hit and miss on this one.
