Kids Banned For Life (or until the lawsuit)

His store let him do as he wants. I am sure he will lose customers in the process.

Unfortunately, store owners cannot do what they want, even if it harms no one and there are vast numbers of other places for the consumer to frequent.

As for driving away customers, I long for a place that bans kids. Parents are not always attentive and they forget that their kids are not cute little darlings; they are pests that should be quarantined. And yes indeed, some of us would love it if Denny's (for example) required muzzles.

I am sure this will be considered unconstitutional or something.
Well, that will be the excuse. Too bad you cannot run a place and let the like minded folks gather and the others avoid you because of your policy. Let the Market decide.

For the record, I will not frequent a place that I know has an abundance of little monsters. That is why I prefer private clubs. Good for avoiding the poor as well.

Avoid Chuck E Cheese's and Denny's and you should be fine ;)

On nice days I like to sit outside, or if that is not an option, at the bar. Nobody is ever outside with their kids, and certainly not at the bar.

Then Bob is probably avoiding you! ;)

When I want a quiet place to meet and greet, I'll go to a private club. No karaoke or however you spell it. No kids, no constant cell phone rings, dings, and banal chatter. Just peace and quiet.

And the poor folks keep away because my club is for old farts with cash and wisdom. We have a three tooth minimum so there is no issues with rednecks or NASCAR cretins. Also no spittoons, and that helps.

Seriously, it is a different world and one I love because I can sit and think and hear my mates.

So in other words you and your old farts sit around and talk about how much better you are than everyone else in the world. I can see Bob talking like Thurston Howell III. Hey look I found a pic of bob on his way to his private club

i see why he is doing it.. but they way he is doing it is not right.

1.
maybe a "smoking section" for kids? and if that section is full ... new customers with kids have to wait

2.
ask the on controllable kids and guardians to leave. they will not be back. but you do have the right to refuse service to anyone! you just can not make it against a particular group of people!

While I agree with the sentiment, I'm not sure that's the case legally speaking. I mean if he decided he was going to ban <insert ethnic minority here> he'd get hit with a lawsuit so fast his head would spin and he'd lose to.

That's because it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of ethnicity. (Race, Creed, color, sex and age over 40 and probably a few other things like handicaps)

It is NOT illegal to discriminate against people with little kids.

It is NOT illegal to discriminate against people for a whole bunch of things. It may be stupid, but not illegal. For example - you can discriminate by not hiring people with beards (setting aside beards for religious reasons).

Discriminating against kids though is a clear case of age discrimination is it not?

I think it's a great idea (and I have a child). There are just some nights when all you want is a place that you don't have to hear some kid whining or crying or see them running around, but you don't want to go to a bar and hear the same thing from the drunks.

Love your location ... not by the shore :D
