Incredible 2 gets Gingerbread before TB? WOW

Rooting is absolutely an option for everyone. Just because you or someone doesn't want to root is a different story.

AFA "real problems" I have no problems with my rooted phone and neither do 99.9% of the rooted users I talk to almost daily. So I'm not sure where you're getting your information from, but you're wrong

Really? Rooting is an option for everyone? This may come as a surprise to you but not everyone that has a smart phone has the knowledge base and/or skill set to do such. Additionally, some of us actually have a life with responsibilities that do not allow us to spend hours each day learning the operating system and dinking around with it. Is it REALLY too much to expect that the phone work properly as is?

Simple answer? Yes. If you dont want a fully working phone that rocks your socks, you cant bitch if you dont want to fix it. Simple as that. This thread is useless. Mods should lock/delete.

If you have basic reading and computer skills, ie copy and paste, yes you can root in about an hour.

As far as spending hours everyday learning your phone is a pretty asinine statement.. Not even unemployed developers spend near that much time 'learning and dinking with the OS'

If you don't want to root, that's obviously your choice, but don't make up ridiculous lies to dissuade others.

I'm not making up lies, I am stating *my* reality. I don't have the time or the skill set to figure it out. You say rooting is easy and only takes an hour but there are 540 threads in the "All Things Root" section leading me to think is isn't quite as breezy as you all say.

Look, I am a middle aged mom with her first smartphone who comes here to try to learn more about how it works and how some of the apps work. I suspect I represent a sizable chunk of the general Android-carrying population. We just want the thing to work right without having to resort to fancy stuff like rooting, etc. I don't understand why that is such an outlandish expectation.

Oh, and for the record, I don't know what Gingerbread is and at this point I really don't care. The only reason I read this thread in the first place was because the word "Gingerbread" piqued my interest since it seemed a random thing on tech-type board.

Give your kid a free pass the next time theyre in trouble for rooting your phone and making it work. Arent that what kids are for? The truth of the matter is this. There are so many threads because there are some people that just dont have the capacity to do anything intelligently. Like read...

No it is not a lot to ask that the phone work right. In all actuality it did work right till they sent the 1st update. IMO i think that this is "their" (HTC, Verizon) for giving the faulty update. Why should this woman be bashed cause she does not want to root. I don't want to root and it has nothing to do with not knowing.

This thread needs to be locked. It is getting out of hand.

Ill agree with the thread being locked, but no ones bashing her. People are giving suggestions and they dont like the suggestions. Theres a simple way to fix your phone, they dont want to do it? Thats fine, no sweat off anyones brow, however if you dont want to take the steps to fix something, IMO, you dont deserve the help. Those are my two cents however and not always everyones.

Its like throwing a tempter tantrum with stern parents. Youre getting no where by doing it.

First off, I'm not trying to talk you or anyone into anything. If someone doesn't feel comfortable rooting their phone, I'd attempt to talk them out of it until they do understand what they are doing, and how they can fix issues that may arise.

Second, I'm pointing out your flawed logic, nothing more. You assume when you root your phone you'll spend hours everyday maintaining it. That simply is not true.

Third, you assume that since there's 540 threads in the root section, it must be difficult and require a huge amount of knowledge to do correctly. There's an enormous amount of customization that CAN be done when rooted, and that is what 99% of the threads are discussing. It opens up so many more options, whether you need or want those options is up to the individual.

I couldn't care less whether you or anyone else roots their phone, that's their decision, and they should be comfortable with it before doing it. I do however care when you make things up to back your perception of something you obviously don't understand, and since you don't understand it, you're the last person who should be commenting on it.

That is my only issue, and I'm done. If your stock phone isn't up to your standards take it back to the store. Simple solution.

heres my arguement to rooting is an option for everyone...... i shouldnt have to root my phone for it to work right, i bought it and it should simply work and heres another reason i dont want to root its.... IVE BEEN THROUGH 6 THUNDERBOLTS ..... now what happens when i go to send them back a rooted thunderbolt... oh guess what they say EFF YOU and your out a $800 or whatever phone and you have to pay out your arse to get another one..... and the reason ive been through so many is the first was bad out of the box and they replaced it, one the sim reader was bad another battery terminal connections was bad. 3 had eff'd up screens all same dim flickering problem and pixely and eventually the screen went out and im getting ready to get yet another one.... and as far as someone not wanting to root their company phone .... hey why dont you risK losing your career your home your car and everything you own because screwing with your phone was more important than your job its like a cop saying hey since its a company car im going to throw some nitrous on it and go out and be an asshole... you dont think that cop would lose his job for messing with the car or a security gaurd at a school deciding hey im going to upgrade from only carrying a badge that says security guard to hey im going to carry a ar15 even though i was told im not allowed to do it.... none of these things are going to go over well and you know it.

Sorry for the run on sentence but im sitting here trying to figure out if theres a way to fix something thats wrong with my phone just to have to read through bull shyt arguing over why someone wont do something...... this is supposed to be a place to get help not a place to argue with someone because they wont risk losing their job over modding their phone. People come here for help and then when they dont get the answer theyre looking for, they get pissy about it. Take the advice or dont. If you dont, then either take your phone back or stfu. End of story. Im done in this thread.

I couldn't care less whether you or anyone else roots their phone, that's their decision, and they should be comfortable with it before doing it.

This argument about rooting can be summed up in these 2 sentences by Ibrick - one of the people keeping this argument going. It's simple, they're not comfortable doing it. Yet, you're still arguing that it's so easy and that they should do it.

Please do everyone a favor and listen to your own post - not everyone is comfortable with root... so calm down and give callinectes a break... she's not comfortable rooting and just wants the phone to work - 90% (maybe more) of the cell phone world is in this category.

I've rooted before, I am very knowledgeable on rooting and would be able to root the TB without thinking twice. But I choose not to root it because I don't want to deal with the next part about rooting - troubleshooting, customizing, and constantly tinkering with the options you have with root access. Are you going to bash me for making this choice??

Please go back and read my two posts. I didn't bash anyone, or try to convince anyone to do anything. I cleared up some misinformation about rooting, and that's about it.

Not only is rooting over the head of the average user, those average users are THEN supposed to know what to do AFTER its rooted. I rooted my Samsung Moment and to be honest, I didnt have a friggen CLUE at what to do after. I was told "load some custom kernals and roms", but how was a noob like me supposed to know the difference and what they do. Heck even after I got the Moment rooted I couldnt even figure out how to remove the bloat ware. So I reflashed the original android 1.5 and left it at that.

If you are determined not to read any directions about how to do stuff after rooting then you shouldn't bother rooting in the first place. The root community here and on several other forums is giant and very willing to help noobs in learning how to remove bloatware, flashing their first rom, using root tools that have been developed and released.

Discovering how to root a device that has not been cracked yet is way beyond the average user, rooting a device using instructions on forums and then learning what you can do afterwards is not.

Rooting is not for everyone but if you are going to be the person who owns a device and complains that I haven't gotten this update yet but refuses to root you do not deserve to complain. It isn't a matter of "it takes hours to learn what you need" that is a BS arguement saying that you are too scared to commit to taking full ownership of your device.

I am a single father of 2 kids both under 4 who works full time and commutes for over an hour daily and I found the time to root my TB. I'm sure anyone who want's to can also find the time needed.

If you want to root but are unsure about a step or two just ask in the all things root section. I have seen people offer to gtalk someone who is unsure about root to walk them through the process.

Don't want to root your phone because someone says you should be rooted, find out why people root their phone and decide if rooting is for you.

Well that about sums it up. We can all agree that the TB has had some issues that people were not expecting. We can also agree that a wide variety of people with varying degrees of technical know how come to this forum. There are solutions to be had by rooting, no doubt, and there are those that just wish the carrier/manufacturer would step up a little sooner and get a fix out to those who choose not to root. That's it in a nutshell. Now can't we all get along?

Lol, this thread went off topic in the first 10 posts and should have been locked a while ago. I still contend that if you own your phone you can learn to root if you choose not to then you shouldn't complain that you are not on the newest version of android, that is your choice. Yeah VZW and HTC could/should step up their game and offer support but they don't really care about the device you purchased they care about getting you to buy a new device.

If you are on a company phone I feel for you and understand you can't root and have to wait for VZW/HTC but you shouldn't worry about getting GB it is not a phone for your personal use, does it work for the applications you have it for if so that is all you need.

If you live in the sticks where you and none of your neighbors have computers to allow you to root, I commend you for being here on these forums and will deal with you complaining that you want GB but are unable to get it.
