Control your volume to prevent hearing loss?

Hi there!

I have started listening to my music, radio, etc. on my android as I walk to work, and I think it might be hurting my hearing! Which is a really scary thought because I've only done it for the past month or so.

I was wondering if either of the two exist:
-an app that can tell you the decibel volume exiting your phone (89 decibels or lower will not cause hearing loss)

or

-online information about the general decibels of volume android settings

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate all the help. I'm also going to see an ear doctor to ask their advice too, but that's not for another week or so.

I can tell you one thing: your phone did not damage your hearing. All phones have a strict db limit they need to stay under for the headphone output. Ipod's have a way to boost the volume even beyond that, and that is still safe.

Trust me, I'm an audio engineer, I listen the things WAY WAY louder than my phone, and have never experienced hearing loss. If you truely are having a hard time hearing, i would see a doctor, as its NOT from the phone.

Short exposures to very loud things like standing on a runway to watch a jet land might not hurt you but prolonged exposure to even 85db I've read can have effects. I've seen it said that even something as innocuous-sounding as sleeping with a stand-fan next to you can be bad.

afaik, There is no way a phone can have a "strict db limit they need to stay under" since they don't know what kind of headphones they are driving. A huge pair of sealed sennheisers might not get as loud as you want when being driven by a smartphone but I know for sure that tiny little earbuds that are much more efficient can get painfully loud on my phone, almost surely into the bad-for-you category.

Tips for Buy a Hearing Aid Accessories
I have some tips about how to use hearing aid:
1. Learn the Features
Take some time while you are still with the audiologist who sold you the hearing aid to learn everything you can about it. Practice replacing the batteries, cleaning the hearing aid and telling the left hearing aid from the right.
2. Learn to Adjust
Learn how to adjust your hearing aid for different situations like a loud room. You may even ask to walk outside where there is traffic and have someone talk to you before leaving with your new hearing aid.
3. Do Not Overdo It
Some people find hearing aids uncomfortable at first. Ask how long you should wear your hearing aid each day while you are adjusting. Depending on the type of hearing aid you have, it may take a few days or more to become used to wearing a hearing aid.
