Root Here goes nothing, trying to get to VZW

Mr. Ed... did they happen to slam you with extra fees in your monthly bill?

And DAMN!! up to 6 gb a month. Last month I had used like half a gig in one day (roaming) so I slowed it *way* down.

The infuse is the one with the commercials where it has a spider (and another one with a fish) on the screen right? If so, that phone looks pretty sharp.

No fees. Basically i used more roaming data than not last month. That seems to be the key

Swapping mybactive phone tovmy old instinct just in case the flag my esn. I would really like to sell the evo.

I am going to upload the letter tomorrow

Well since getting the prl loaded I have used 6gb just from last night. I tethered to a laptop and downloaded a rather large online game. I guess I should slow down a bit I don't want it to be overly obvious to them, but if sprints 3g was on par with verizons 3g here I would be using them instead. I think for 2 weeks of usage on sprint I had barely 200mb and was using wifi as much as possible. Should I try to keep my usage around 8 to 10 gbs a month or should I use a whole lot to get bumped? I don't want to raise a red flag and have to pay an etf. When I was with verizon I normally used 5 to 6gbs a month streaming netflix and pandora on my phone as well as facebok and twitter.

The letter states a max of 800mb per month or more roam than not

edit....it said i used more roaming than not. The limit is 800 mins talk

I understand the lack of 4G from sprint, but does the tiered data plan that VZW is now enforcing not make you guys want to stay with Sprint? Just seems to me that the extra $$ for a higher plan to compensate for the data usage you guys have each month would make for a hefty bill.

I've contemplated going to VZW the passed couple of days, but i don't want the tiered plans, and i can't find a phone they have that i'd be willing to give up the Evo for. Just rambling, it's Monday am, gunk still in my eye, bleh.. lol

Well I need 4g so I can tether without my connection suffering. My internet in this apartment blows and 4g would actually be an upgrade from what time warner provides. I may have a more expensive phone bill but i would drop the 70 a month i pay for TW service. It should all come out in the wash. I dont usually use 8-10g a month anyhow. Just have been for the purpose of trying to get the boot. If i thought sprint would ever put wimax in this area i would stay but im tired of my situation and need a change from TW and sprints "premier" data that I dont get even though i pay for it every day.

as far as phones go as much as Id hate to i will get the tbolt if i moved on today. Its an Evo a year later. I always thought it was dumb to release an Evo a year later, they should have released it last year because its behind the curve as much as the evo is now...there should be something nice on the horizon with dual processors :).

Gotcha. I don't blame you since tethering is your ultimate goal. As much as a hate VZW, their network is by far the best around my area. They're more expensive, but not by a whole heap of alot on the initial plan itself. Just enough to make it worth staying at Sprint though. My wife is on VZW and i'm switching her over to Sprint when her contract is up in October, we'll pay $145 and change after tax, insurance, etc for the 450 everything data plan. It'll save her about $30/month and me about $10/month when she switches over. I've been starting to ponder going to VZW myself, but they still don't have a phone that beats the Evo from what i can see. I can't stand Motorola's, so the Droid X and original Droid lines are out. Does the Thunderbolt have the same dev support/ROM selection we do? Friend of mine has 1, it's his 2nd, 1st one was POS and had to get returned.

I'd love 4G and better network coverage, but the tiered data plans and higher plan prices make it hard for me to bite the bullet. Maybe in a few years when Sprint changes to tiered data plans i'll make the switch. Good to know theres a way to have Sprint force you out though ;)

Yeah I don't like the moto line because its locked and I hate samsung products that's why I said the t bolt. Its a slightly upgraded evo. Processor is faster screen I believe is better. I played with one in the store and stock its quad scores killed the evo. Not that quad is definitive but it felt smooth too. I've had my evo to the limits, 2200 plus quadrants, t bolt felt smoother. I'm not sure on build quality, it felt cheap but not much worse then the evo.

I'll get a ge discount on my phone account that I don't get on tw cable so I'll save even more. Its not for everyone but it makes sense for me right now. Plus if I just left I would have two early term fees, ugh.

The dev support isn't as strong but its there. They get a lot of what we get. They are similar phones.

You have seen me bad mouth samsung for over a year now.. And i take most of it back. This infuse is pretty much amazing. I didnt have to tweak much at all and the thing just plain works. Root was only needed for titanium and wifi tether. Setcpu was un needed but i wentvahead and overclocjed this badboy to 1.8 and WOW!

^^ I'm guessing that mr. ed meant 800 mb, not gb, but I could be wrong.

I'd never be able to do 800 gb. But I probably do roam more than not.... hope they dont can me... I like sprint, but I'd like them more if they had better signal where I live ;)

I was wrong anyway....there is no limit listed....simply more roaming data than not

Ahhh... good to know.

:) imagine if they just sat there and were like... "okay, he roamed 23mb and had 22 mb of our data... let's can him!"

Now, could you say, roam the hell out of your phone before august? Like 6gb a night like the other poster? :)

Also thanks for posting the letter.

Nah.. Got a new phone ....just going to call them, thank them for the extra time but let them know they can go ahead and kill the line. Its bad enough they have crappy 3 and 4g reception but i lost premier status with the changes they made there. And now this.. Hell of a way to treatva 13 yr customer :)

Maybe they improved over the last couple months...I've still only had poor experience including my gf current phone...though you are the second to say samsung has improved...something to consider

Wow, no kidding. Sprint needs to reward loyalty.
I remember when the evo was hard to find and everyone was saying the 'new' customers were getting preference over existing customers. What rubbish.

Also, can't wait for the comparison.

Lol, i am actually starting this process to try and get booted as well. I am going to pick up a line on Att or verizon today, havent made up my mind on what i want to do because of cost.

I bought Roam Control in the market a long time ago, and now im leaving roaming on all the time and last night i started downloading files that are 500 mbs and im just downloading them over and over. Does anyone know any larger files that are around a gb i can download? lol

I will miss having my Evo, but i also enjoy the iphone, not starting any fights lol, it just works well for me so i may pick one up. We will see how this road goes. Either way, i will miss you guys and im glad to have been able to help here and there..and thank you so much for all you have taught me too.
Peace, Love and Happy Rooting guys!

Same here, they have given me no loyalty, so i feel im no longer obligated to return the favor. Ill miss unlimited everything, but i need a new carrier, with better signal.

Linux distros are ususally around 700mb or higher depending on if you get the cd or dvd version.

And now for a little puzzle (which will help you find a larger file for your needs... be warned, this is my first forum word puzzle)

# Use a 1 with 100 zeros to find your favorite M from imdb,
# and use your windows media player to fire up youtube vide.

Clues are underlined. I hope this was a fun way to find something to download.

:)

Thanks but verizons pricing and newly created tiered data pushed me to my fiancee's existing att family plan.

The existing lines still receive unlimited data and ya just cant beat the $40 month fee.

Checking out vzw phone offerings are strong...but suddenly they are the most expensive up front and monthly.

Well after 2 weeks of constant calls to sprint they sent me an Evo to replace my Epic, problem is the Evo has the newest update on it and I can't root it yet. Also I tried the method here in this link [6/16]*techknowfile's* - Hack the HTC EVO - 3G w/o Sprint EVDO coverage! - xda-developers and I cannot get my phone to do anything. Anyone have any ideas about how to update the prl on the newest update? I would prefer to use verizon service because its a lot better here than sprint and I don;t care if they boot me for it or not.

The ginger dialer doesn't support data codes that's why we always used the froyo epst. I don't think you can until you can change your epst.apk and you can't do that till you can root...think you are stuck at the moment.

It's ##3282# for what it's worth. I don't think it will do anything on ginger though...

To update to sprints latest just go to menu settings update and select prl

After gettin my MSL I dial ##3282# and get a menu that says epst, click edit it asks for password so I enter MSL it goes to another menu with data profile, EVDO, advanced, WImax, and usb charging. Not sure if I can do anything else or not until we get root for the newest gb release.
