8 Hours & A Dead Battery

Last night at 10:00 I unplugged my phone from charging - it was at 100% after being down to 3% earlier in the evening. Once it was unplugged I checked the task manager & only Lookout & Widget Locker were running. I set the phone down and went to bed.

When I got up at 6:00 this morning I went to look at my phone and it wouldn't wake - because it had shut off. It had shut off because the battery was dead!! Sitting on the kitchen counter it ran completely down and died at some point in the night. That's insane!! If I had actually been using it it probably would have run down almost immediately!

I've had this phone for a week now, and although the battery life isn't phenomenal it's been OK. Until yesterday. It did run down much more quickly during the day yesterday than it had before, but I didn't think much of it. Until the dead phone this morning. Somewhere I must have installed something or used something that's totally killing it. Once it's resuscitated I'll have to poke around.

But good grief!

I have the same type of issue. At work I loose as much as 13% battery an hour. At home it is more like 3-5%. I have tried turning off all the data, WiFi, etc. and it doesn't make any noticeable difference. Swapped phones with a new one and same thing. Never had this problem with Droid X. From reading about this issue, some people have the problem and some don't. If you are one of the ones like me who does, it can be frustrating.

Your answer is in your second sentence. "task manager"...it will kill everthing then the apps keep restarting on their own to run in the background. This kills battery.

The only other thing it could be is if you have GPS turned on all the time?

In my case it doesn't seem to have anything to do with 4G connected or not. I can turn off Network Data altogether and the battery drains just as fast. Just tried an experiment. Put phone in airplane mode for two hours. Battery dropped by only 1%. As soon as I put it back to non-airplane mode but with all bluetooth, WiFi, and network still turned off, it started draining at a very high rate again.

Thanks for all of the thoughts on the issue.

Task Manager that I mentioned is the app that comes installed on the DC. I had not used it to kill anything - just took a look to see what was running. I do not run any sort of task killer - no use for them IMO (after being around here for a year and reading many words of wisdom on the topic!).

I had mentioned that Lookout was running. And I honestly thought that maybe it would/should be to do what it does. However, after a restart today it was not listed as running, but all seemed fine when I opened it to take a look. And once I got out of it it was no longer listed as a running app. I had installed it on Wed evening and the phone issues I had were all yesterday after taking it off the charger in the morning. I suspect this was the culprit.

Today I was back to my "normal" not stellar but not as bad as yesterday battery life.

And yes, display is by far the biggest user of the battery. The rest of the apps are a minimal drain. No shock there.

I do have 4G off, use WiFi at home with a great signal (use Y5 batter saver to turn on/off so it's not on all the time), and have great cell signal when on 3G. Bluetooth is only on once in a while in the car.

GPS is on - needs to be for Mobile Recovery.

RE: GPS - are there "best" settings for which settings should be used?

Thanks again.
