Help 2 very annoying problems with the Thrive

I'm about to return my Thrive to BB because there is no known fix for the following problems:

1. The complaint of many: the screen not waking up. Rebooting is the only thing that has worked for me.

2. "UAString" set to "Desktop" instead of "Android" (in Default Honeycomb browser) won't stay fixed after tablet is rebooted, which happens quite often with the screen wake issue. What is really wierd is that the UAString still shows "Desktop" after a reboot, but it behaves like "Android" mode. So I have to reset this every time the screen wake issue happens.

I'll probably hold out until my 14 days with BB are just about up, but if Toshiba does not resolve this by then, I'll have to return it....probably for a Transformer this time.

If anyone finds a fix for these issues, please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for your review. I was actually in HHGregg yesterday comparing tablets for a quick purchase today (Friday). The salesman was trying to wake the tablet up and was having all kinds of issues until he had to do the full reboot. Interesting. Shame of it is, I was really sold on the Thrive. We'll see what other users have to say and more than likely, I'll have one later today to find out for myself.

I've had my Thrive for 2 days now. No problem with waking up. Works great, able to read easily outside (not direct sun). Some glare but not bad. Perhaps the screen protector helps. Able to take picture with GPS active and location shows up in exif. Love it so far!
Is your wifi always on? Or is it set to turn off when the screen sleeps? I just tried setting my wifi to never turn off last night, and the screen woke up just fine this morning. Time will tell... (just fyi, I read in another Thrive forum that this worked for someone else too, and that is where i got the idea to try it)

Leaving on works for some, but others say it does not help. No to mention more of a battery drain.

Toshiba had better be doing damage control, since returns are already happening and likely a surge of returns now, since 14 days is soon up for first buyers.

This has been working fine for me. I don't like the additional battery drain since it never really sleeps. Somebody over at thriveforums said they downloaded a wifi timeout app from the market that supposedly works. I may give that a try.

...I wonder if you could plug a USB flashdisk to wake up the Thrive?
I tried it and it worked for me. But I decided to go with the wifi timeout app and that has been working. Rumor has it that Android 3.2 will be out for the Thrive in August. Perhaps this will fix the SOD problem.

I thought this worthy of mentioning...my Thrive will turn on by itself while sleeping...go off a short time later...and come back on at various times. I've read that others have seen this happen too. But I don't think it is as common as the SOD issue.

Funny, since the waking issue was why I returned the A500 (twice). If the Thrive has both issues, the temporary semi-fixes contradict, so are useless. One fix needs more wifi tablet activity and the other requires less.
