Am I Alone in Disliking Android 2.3?

Am I the only person who doesn't care for 2.3?

I loved Froyo, 2.2, but 2.1 and 2.3 were never any of my favorites due to the browser look, the lock screen look, the icons, and a few other things.

I was just curious if anyone else out there was like me in disliking it. lol I love Android overall, but 2.1 and 2.3 aren't my favorites and kinda look outdated.

From a user perspective, there is not that much, but it has a nice visual effect for bouncing when scrolling to the end, nice shut-down animation, more widgets (especially power control is much more refined), and Google chat with Video should now work. Plus all the security fixes, etc.

I did notice that and it does look nice like an improvement in the UI.

Like for the browser...it's just so plain and ordinary whereas Froyo's was more sleek. The icons are kinda...old looking to me. The camera looks really outdated too. The lockscreen has that other switch which just mutes it and it just looks weird.

Of course not. Does it matter? Will you like it more or less if others don't like it also?

If, on the other hand, you want to start a discussion on how 2.3 could be improved or apps or hacks that you think will improve things I could see how that could actually be a useful discussion rather than just commiserating with other disgruntled people.

This topic started out fine.... let's keep it that way, please.

From the Site Rules:

you're free to say what you think – but do it in a constructive, positive, 'add to the conversation' kinda way – not the condescending 'I don't like what you're saying so you suck and also, are a bitch' kinda way.

Please don't make pointless rude/nonconstructive replies. "This thread sucks," etc.

I trust further reminders will not be required.

I say "Am I Alone...?" as just a way of getting others to reply and say whether or not they agree or disagree and hopefully why. I was not intending on people coming here to just post a simple "yes" or "no" and that be it. I wanted to know other people's opinions on the new firmware and whether or not they liked it and what they didn't like and what they felt could be improved or what was improved right or wrong.

I honestly couldn't care any less of what others think, I just asked that as a much simpler way of asking "What do you like most and least about the 2.3 update? I personally don't like it due to..."

What is your personal opinion on the firmware?

Thank you Slug. I am sure people will keep it civil and thank you for looking out for everyone's feelings and everyone personally here on this forum. I didn't create this to start a feud with anyone but I am sorry if it did seem like it was coming to that. Thanks again for the friendly reminder!

Functionality is why I like Android 2.3

That's a good reason lol

I got to use Android 2.3.3 for Evo 4G all day today and I didn't see much improvements or differences. The way it ran didn't seem faster either nor did it seem any slower.

Other devices I have used with Android 2.3 don't seem to be any better or worse. I mainly dislike it, as I said, for the looks.

Are there any apps that will only work for Android 2.3 at the moment?

Well most of the improvements are "under the hood" so to speak, but if you just don't like the looks, that is easy to change with alternate launchers, different icons, etc.

GB is an improvement as far as I'm concerned, and will never go back to Froyo.
The important things are better battery life, performance and task management, improved apps move to SD card, UI enhancements like battery statistics and manage apps.

In my office, several people have the DroidX. They mentioned battery life has gone down considerably since switching to 2.3.. I wonder if this is a Motorola issue? I was just going to pass when it comes available for my Incredible. Are others noticing better battery life?

One thing I forgot to mention was the way it connects to computers. Like Android 2.1, there isn't any of those special options that would pop up in Android 2.1, at least for all of the phones that I used.

On Android 2.2 with my Evo, I would have a whole list of things to do once connected to a computer such as USB tethering, charge, use as USB hard drive, and some other options I can't remember. Now when I plug into my computer with 2.3 it just pops up "USB storage in use" or "Would you like to connect through USB hard drive? Some applications may not work once in USB hard drive mode."
