Hello everyone. I have just registered to the site so thought i'd say hello. I have yet to get an android phone.

I may hear boo's from this, but I am weighing up the new iPhone (as in the rumoured one) or the HTC magic. I have yet to use an android phone, so have no experience of the OS which is what's making me doubt the Magic a little.

Anyway, just thought i'd say 'Hello'.

Thanks for the thread suggestion. I have read it though and am still non-the-wiser as to whether to get one or not, haha! I am just playing the waiting game and seeing what both the new iPhone and Magic recieve from reviews.

In the mean time, i'll keep checking this forum, and seeing what's going on with the Android OS. Anyone else planning on getting the magic then? Or are you all hard-keyboard lovers? :D

The nice thing about G1 is you have your choice ... some apps have implemented their own virtual keyboards ... and the next OTA update will probably make the virtual keyboad available to all apps ...

Magic you will have one choice ... now how "magic" is that

haha...good point!

I do quite like the G1, but its been out a while now and i really don't want to start an 18month contract on it. I may look into ebay'ing a G1. But my main problem with the G1 is the poor battery life reports I read.

I used a double thickness ~2200 mAh battery and it lasts for more than a day of heavy use ... charge it often ... it came with a backcover ... bought it off Ebay ...

:"This is the last listing from my ebay EBay search a few days ago .. working great for me !!"

here is a current Ebay Listing ~$25:

Thanks for the link justjimjpc. However, I think the G1 is rather large already, and really wouldn't want to increase the physical footprint of it. How is battery life without the super-size battery?

For my use it was unacceptable for a normal day's use if charging wasn't going to be available... Would need exact charged battery and/or portable battery recharger(another battery pack) device that could be used to charge the phone battery without AC power ... I had both options ...

I now only use the enhanced thick battery pack ...

Thanks for the advice. I think its going to have to be the Magic for me though. (Well, thats assuming the battery life is any good too).

Have you ever used an iPhone, and if so, how do you compare the two operating systems?

The Magic is not much more than Dream without the physical keyboard ... it looks like it is thinner, which means it will have less room probably for battery than the G1...

I have used friends iPhones and did not like the OS because of no multiple apps running in the Backgroup ... and was not overly impressed with the virtual keyboard ... but you can get use to almost anything ...
