Help Restoring Roms

Hey,
I'm thinking of rooting my DS, but i'm quite new to Androids. I've recentley got the phone on Contract so i'm paranoid about breaking it. I have a few questions:
What methods do I have of restoring the rom if it all goes wrong?
Where can I get the official rom? (I'm on O2 if that helps)
Is there anyway of totally fooking it up by s-off'ing it and gingerbreaking
it?
How do I restore the rom if I brick my phone?
Can I restore to a backup rom if it is bricked?

Thanks in advance, sorry if I asked something stupid, or something that makes no sense at all, i've been googling all day but can't make sense of it all.

In short, you can go back to original state, I believe its a fairly simple process (provided you got root in the first place easily enough!), but you need to find answers on XDA forum, where all the latest ROMS and tweaks are found.

Alright, thanks, i'm guessing alot more tutorials will be created due to the fact that software s-off has been made available.

Other devices have had S-Off achieved easily enough but its all pretty similar handset to handset. Only slight variations in practice, but correct software and knowledge is vital. You need to fully understand the risks of mistakes, and follow instructions to the letter.
