Verizon Wireless to store managers: Wednesday is a big day Boy Genius Report

Reason to be excited again. What if it's a possible announcement on 2.1 for either the Droid or the Eris or both? Nothing's official yet, at least about what the conference concerns, but two different sources have said this so it looks like it's true. If it is about the iPhone hitting Verizon, they may still weasel in some small tidbits about other stuff, Android included.

It's definitly not about 2.1 coming to Eris/Moto Droid

A software update is not something that "managers" need to be prepared for. Updates are something that geeks like us see as something huge, but it is not something that is going to be a "heads up" for store level managers. Especially since the 2.1 update will be OTA and very few people if at all will have to visit a local verizon store.

Aren't they releasing the Palm Pre Plus this week?

Yes, the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi were released today.

UMMM Wednesday is 1/27 and the droid already got 2.1 so yea and not the HTC Eris...

My mistake on the date, and no it doesn't.

Well, it's speculated that it is for an Apple related announcement, but it's just that. Speculation. At big events like this, there are side venues where small bits of info. about other things come about. You really think they'll say one thing about whatever the conference was mainly about and call it quits? There's gonna be VZW higher-ups in attendance. Reporters are going to coerce them into revealing information about other things. It won't necessarily be about 2.1, or Android at all, but there's a chance it may.

We'll just wait and see. Gotta take a test Wednesday, but I'll be home for that 1PM live feed thing and see what comes out of this.

all i know is that if they do announce the iPhone for verizon to be released this summer, then goodbye droid eris. ive only had the phone for about 13 days so i can still return it.

i bought the eris because it seemed like the best competitor to the iphone that i could get with my verizon contract.

also, if i bought my droid eris and renewed my contract, then take it back, could i get a new phone with the discounted 1 year price? if not i might just sell my droid eris online for a couple hundred bucks.

Word that I've heard is that the rumored Apple Tablet may be a Verzion exclusive and will only be usable on their network. Not sure if this is true, but the fact that the "heads up" is for Wednesday and that Apple is going to announce whatever new overpriced piece of tech they've been working on is too much of coincidence. I don't know what the specifics are, and I could be off about the exclusive clause in their agreement, but I can almost promise that 2.x for the Eris has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Also. Hi all. I'm the new guy.

Well, we can still hope for it.

And don't get too excited over getting the iPhone as well as other new devices. The iPhone killed ATT's network and slowed 3g down for a lot of people in an area. If VZW gets migrating customers and more smartphones, you're gonna have even more threads on this forum complaining.

Best hope the CEO had a baby boy and in celebration is releasing 2.1for everyone after the briss.

I was converted to Eris because of a good friend of mine who went to the HTC Hero after being a 2-year iPhone user.

I've converted 2 iPhone users.

Out of the box functionality, versatility, and Google (since Google and Apple like each other less and less every day) make the following mathematical statement true to me:

Android > iPhone

I am an Apple fanboy, so I hate to say this. But other than an unparalleled UI, iPhone has little or nothing to offer me that my Eris doesn't. I impress iPhone users every day. I kind of don't want to be one.

Have to agree... Can anyone give any sensible explanation why this would concern store managers ? I doubt it.

At the same time I have a hard time believing it will be a new mobile device as I cannot see how that would constitute "a big day". I agree with all that have stated they believe it will be Apple related, especially if it is the Tablet. The tablet is new technology that managers and employees alike would really have to get comfortable with before it hit the store floor. I don't mean to rain on the parade and I hope I am wrong, just my .02

I've had both the iPhone and (now have) the Droid eris and from my experience they really are very similar phones. Apple is good at a lot of things that Android phones could learn from but imo HTC has really improved on the android os so much that its almost as user friendly as the iPhone, actually in some ways its more user friendly. The sticking point to me is the android market over the iPhones app store. Thats mostly to do with the ease of getting free music in a moments notice with the iMusic app on Android. Besides that I hate Safari and enjoy having a 5 Megapixel camera over the 3.2 megapixel iphone camera. If VZW gets the iPhone I'm sticking with the droid eris unless apple opens up the app store. Add in the fact that the only storage you get is the built in internal storage with no sd or memory card slot of any kind and I feel the eris is better device.

Definitely not anything Apple related as Apple would make the announcement at one of their events/conferences. Verizon wouldn't be the ones breaking the news first.

CNN reports it is indeed about Apple, and Verizon is getting the iPhone as early as June.

CNN Money dot com.

There have been several other sites listing the same information. google iphone verizon and they all pop up.

iphone has more mainstream apps, such as ESPN, Yahoo fantasy football, Fox News, eTrade, Chase Bank, Directv DVR.. the list goes on. I used to love ordering chipotle with 3 clicks in the car on my way home from work. Call me silly, but the iPhone has the apps most every day people use.

That's why I liked the iPhone when I had it. And I'll get it again if it comes to big red as rumored.

I love my android. But the apps, well... for a 41 year old professional like myself, I think most of them are garbage. Until Android gets mainstream apps, they will be behind in the game. If Android had the same apps, then I wouldn't move.
