Ok, so I have had my Moment a week or two and have noticed something peculiar. Apps start up on their own. We are talking weird stuff. The thing is they start evenif I haven't used my phone. I can kill them using a task killer but they keep coming back. Is this a part of android or can it be fixed?

Care to be specific? Certain apps like mail, sms, voicemail, voice control run by default. Other seemingly useless things like weather channel also run even if you install another weather app. The only way to alter this that I'm aware of is to root the phone (check out zefie's roms). OTH, this isn't windows mobile and I'm of the opinion that you don't really need to monitor the running apps too closely. I've dutifully killed these apps in the past and haven't noticed any great difference in performance. Though installed, I rarely use ATK these days.

Moxier Mail
Sprint Navigation
Gmail (probably trying to get messages.)
Instant messaging (Not Messaging)

These are the most recent ones I can think of but there have been others too. It doesn't bother me so much when I know I have used the app recently. What bothers me is some of these start for no reason. It is almost like someone else is controlling my phone.

Is there anyway to shutdown the browser besides hitting the Home key?

Not sure what browser it is exactly. It is whatever comes standard on the Moment.

As for the apps, my phone has been plugged in for a couple of hours now and all apps had been killed after plugging it in. There are now 6 apps in the list:

Instant Messaging
Voicemail
Sprint Navigation
Moxier Mail
Messaging - Recieved a text message so this is accounted for.
Gmail - Recieved e-mail notification of reply to this thread so this is accounted for.

The other four I am unsure about. I have not touched the phone since I plugged it in.

I now use steel instead of the default. It works very well but takes some getting used to. Anyways, with this program you can fully close it down by holding the back arrow for 2 or 3 secs. It's great for when I have multiple windows open and I want it all to close down.

Instant messaging if you logged in and don't sign off and exit will contitnue to run when trying to see if you have message.s Moxier shouldn't be running unless you have set it up. Sprint Navigation starts if you didn't go to the home screen and hit menu and exit. Voicemail polls for new messages since you can receive a message without your phone ringing and the other two you have accounted for. Try these few tips and see where you get with that?

Never logged into IM. Never setup Moxier. Not sure about Sprint Navigation. Voicemail I understand.

You can add these to my list as well.
NFL Mobile
Documents To Go
Sudoku Free
Bluetooth File Transfer
Android Market

I have not accessed these at all except for the market. Sudoku is the only one I even had a link to on the Home screen.

i have noticed the same programs starting on their own and running in the background on my phone. i never used moxier and never wanted to along with quite a few of the other apps you listed, like NFL mobile, and sprint navigation.

the only method i could find was to root the phone and remove them. i have them backed up on the sdcard and reinstalling them literally would take me 15-20 seconds. most of them i wont ever use and was tired of them consuming resources on my phone.

i know there is a program called startup auditor found in the market for around $1 which i've read around here lets you change which programs load when the phone starts up, but i haven't used it.
