STILL no media reviews?!? Well, took long enough.

I did some checking, since I am compulsive like that. The D3 seems the first major carrier, non-entry level Android device that has gone a week after channel release without a review. It seems the media made zero effort to get one and ditto for Moto or VZW sending any out to their usual contacts.

Added:

The Toshiba Thrive also has that distinction as well for tablets, though a younger category.

Moto/Verizon id TOTALLY dropping the ball on this. I was just in a verizon store to get a horribly disappointing media dock (which is going back tonight) and you wouldn't have known this was "launch day" of the D3.

They had accessories but they were in the back. There wasn't a single poster, display, nothing! They had one out but I literally passed right by it before I went back and found it.

This won't end well.

I have been to two BB stores (with BB Mobile depts), a Costco w/ a Wireless Advocate kiosk and two VZW corp store over the past 3 days. Not a single one of these stores had a D3 out on display or in stock (at least that they would let me see).

One BB employee said they were getting the D3 "later" whereas another said "we probably won't carry it". One VZW corp store said "they should be here any day" and the other said "We aren't permitted to release them yet, check back in a few days". The Costco guy said they had no idea if they were gonna carry the D3 or not but were pushing the $60 D2G HARD so I would imagine they are also trying to clear inventory.

I really did NOT expect such a low-key launch by VZW for this one. You'd think that all of the launch day OG Droid 1 owners now coming up for renewal they would be pushing the D3 like crazy!! My guess is that the upcoming Samsung 4G LTE slider and/or Bioinic is going to get all of the back to school push and promotion hoopla.

The difference being Samsung will push their products, so people will end up buying a slower device with less storage built in, but for more money. Irony.

I'm hoping that they are waiting for the Bionic to drop so they can put the full Droid marketing blitz on the DX2, Bionic, D3, Incredible 2 and Charge. Is the Incredible 2 still a Droid?

So far the Charge is the only Droid phone that has a Droid commercial....and they dont really play it that much anymore.

Its is odd there are really no reviews of this phone anywhere. The DX2 was reviewed alot. That honor should be going to the originals in the Droid family..

Motorola DROID 3 Review - Phone Arena

The wording seems odd- Almost like it was translated. I mainly agree with the review, but the camera pics are fine, as long as the Flash is not used much (the blue tint kicks in). Seems the signal strength review points were truncated and had no direction. I can say the reception of the D3 is the best of any phone I have tried or owned.

Still, as far as the camera- until an optical zoom is common for phones, I see no standard use for camera function besides impulse pics.

Yeah, it's very strange that blogs like Engadget, Gizmodo, and BGR don't have a full review of a Droid phone by now. They sometimes even have a full review of other phones before the release date.

Maybe Verizon or Motorola aren't sending them review devices.

I've noticed that the hands-ons quick review out there all seem rip on the Droid 3 for having the pentile display and it being crappy, but looking back at some reviews for the Atrix (which also has the pentile display), they seem to gloss over the display portion of the review and just say that it's good.

Reviewers seem to be more harsh on the Droid 3, even though the Atrix was more hyped and seem to be a relatively worse phone.

I'm stalking the Droid 3 threads cuz I'm very tempted to upgrade to a Droid 3. But I really want to see the Droid 3's pentile display in person and judge for myself before I upgrade.

The display is great, everyone complaining about it needs to remember it's a phone, not a Hi-Def TV. In my opinion, it's the best screen I've seen on a smartphone including retina on Iphones. It's a great size and looks amazing.

Not sure if its the best screen but it sure is nice to me. I think its above average and most users won't be disappointed. Anyways, here's another media review which is actually the most negative review I've seen on the D3. It looks like this guy got a bum review unit but that's just my opinion.
