Droid Eris vs Iphone

I'm anti-Apple, so I'm way biased. :) I look at Apple products as the "snob" products: you can get other devices (music players, smartphones, computers, etc.) with the same or better specs for usually half the price outside of Apple. And I'm so sick and tired of EVERYTHING electronic advertising compatibility with the iPhone. That, and everyone and their dogs producing the i"insert whatever describes your product here". Apple just annoys me. :)

For me, I want the Android phone because I use Google for a lot of things. It's nice to have it all seamlessly integrated into my Eris with no hookups (gmail, Google Calendar, Google Voice, Google Chat, etc.).

As my IPhone friend just yesterday said... "Man this thing is fast."

My phone beats his phone in every category except camera. His takes better pictures. His I phone has more useless apps to choose from as well.

If you don't mind being tied to ITunes then go for the Iphone. I personally hate Itunes. I also hate Apple as well.

Get what ever you feel comfortable with. If VZW gets an IPhone go to a store and test it before you buy. Get what ever you like best.

Just remember though... IPhone users are tools.

Assuming that the iphone will allow multi-tasking then yes. I can't imagine having to exit a music player or Pandora just to view and/or respond to a text.

This is kind of a myth. The iPhone will leave music running in the background while you do other things. I don't know about Pandora, but I know it will with the stock music player.

so if I bought an iPhone I would automatically turn into a tool like *poof* you're a tool now.

I know lots of people with iPhones, i would categorize none of them as tools.

I would say a categorical generalization of a group of people based on their choice of smartphone is rather....toolish.

I know people with iPhones, Android phones, BlackBerries, Palms and dumb phones that are tools. Come to think of it, I know a lot of tools and may need to reevaluate my contact list. :D I also know a larger group of people with the same devices that are really cool. The device doesn't make someone a tool. Being a tool makes someone a tool. Although, I do think the iPhone has an app for that. Check for insta-tool 2.5.

The iPhone is a brick compared to the Eris. I keep the Eris in my shorts. The iPhone makes me look like I have another sack.

That is much more info than any of us needed.

I found an iPhone the other day (sitting atop a gas pump) and while I was trying to find the owner I did notice how much heavier it is than my Eris. It reminded me of a plastic Droid.

You bother to read the first line of my post??? "My IPhone Friend..."

WOW take a joke. Those with out a sense of humor could also be categorized as toolish...

eris
4.45x2.19x0.51 - 4.23oz.

iphone
4.5x2.4x.48 - 4.8oz.

so the iphone is .05 inches taller, .21 inches wider and .03 inches thinner...that really is not much

It may not be on paper, but it does feel a lot different in your hands. I was a little surprised too.

Thanks for those interesting mental images. :)

Anyhow, I'll confess to being a serious Apple fanboy -- I happily banished Windows from my life years ago, and there are no fewer than five Macs in my house right now. But still ... given the choice of waiting a little while for a VZW iPhone, or buying an Android device, I readily went for the Android.

That's for several reasons, including the expandable memory, removable battery, and just the overall variety of available devices and manufacturers. The big reason, though, is the Linux heritage behind the Android. There's way more flexibility in app designs, homescreen configurations, the way apps can be added and removed, and so on. In short, it's way easier to make your phone what you, personally, want it to be.

Speed for me is a non-issue. The Eris could be a bit snappier, but the UI is plenty fast, and besides ... most of the lag time people experience is a reflection of the speed of the data connection anyway, and there's not a lot the device can do about that.

I agree..only a "tool" would make a comment like that! iphones are great phones. Its just childish to categorize people like that because of what phone they use.

so my friend was on his iphone trying to show me a video...it was slow.
so i switched from my google listen to my camera to record the video (it was a good video...OK go or something...) then i just turned my camera off, held the home button...what do i want to go back to (multi-tasking) google listen or the web...or maybe beat down boxing...man i would never limit myself with an iphone.
the rumor: nexus one on verizon 3/23/09!! :)
