I dont think Ive ever ran into a situation needing a back up phone. Any phone issues Ive ever had were usually same day switches. I plan on trading mine in for a Photon. Im tired of the HTC sense crashes and other bugs since Gingerbread came out.

I'm in the opposite boat as you. Ever since I flashed cyanogenmod I just can't get rid of my EVO. It's like a new phone with hundreds of new features. The battery life and stability are superior compared to stock by far, and I want to keep my EVO until a newer device comes out with full cyanogenmod support.

It all comes down to if they will find a hole to exploit in GB or my upgrade date comes first. It'll also depend on how difficult it is and how risky it is for bricking. Depending on how things go I'm really debating Evio 3 and CM7. I do international work so the Photon actually fits me better convenience wise.

yeah, though i doubt that motorolla will ever unlock their bootloader. i was looking at that photon as well. but until they can crack it and the dev community supports it, i will wait and see what is on the horizon. my upgrade is not due til next year anyways.

best buy is known to buy phones for those that purchased prior to the buyback...for anyone wondering.

There is no way on this earth I'd trade my Evo for a Motorola phone either, ever. :)

HTC has by far the best support for their devices, and the most open policy to developers, hands down. This is why I decided to ugrade to the Evo 3D.

I do think they seem to do the best at updating phones often and keeping them up to date but the way the GB update made my phone unusable if Im using HTC sense is frustrating enough to make me jump ship. That plus how they locked their bootloader with the update is frustrating too since now Im stuck with a phone that crashes and reboots itself pretty consistently on Sense and even now and then will crash and reboot my phone when using other launchers. So I cant root and get out of this issue. Motorola also does a decent job of updating their phones and has solid hardware. Even though Im jumping ship I would not jump to Samsung, and last time I saw, there are no LG phones on Sprint but even then I dont think Id switch to one.
