for those of you who have rooted phones:
You can call normal wireless support (press 1 instead of going to pda/smartphone support) and request a "network refresh". Then you need to powercycle your phone and your should get data back!
I'm trying this right now. Just called rogers.
There's no queue on the normal wireless side, so if you want to speak to a rep this took me literally 1 minute to do.
Edit: Confirmed. It works. Just call rogers and ask for a "network refresh" and you have 2g/3g back on modded firmwares.
Tested on htc dream running cyanogenmod 4.2.13
by the way, those of you who have trouble upgrading should go to howard forums. There's a method to update the phone using a zip file. This one is for the htc dream. I don't know if there's one for magic as well. Good luck!
Whoops!
